Opening Cinematics that play when you boot up a game are always a pleasure to watch. What's your fav? For me, it would have to be Tales of The Abyss, as that intro... well. I can't say, but dadgum, it's awesome!!!

Chrono Trigger's opening for the PSX and Nintendo DS was always thrilling for me to watch. But I have never have gotten bored of watching every Blaz Blue game's opening cinematic at all yet.

I have seen many good game intros...

But, for the NES, the best intro I ever saw was this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkDwg7Ezyvo

It's pretty well done and it's a pleasure to watch in my opinion.

Mine would have to be Uncharted 2's opening with the train-yard-thingy.

BluemageKyle :

While that's good, I prefer Uncharted 3's which you can view here.

Not to say Uncharted 2's was poor, 2's was very good as well, and really, the Uncharted series is amazing as a whole. But I feel 3's captures the essence of the situation while being vague about what the game is going to be about right away. I appreciate an opening that isn't the most exciting part of the game, but keeps you interested in seeing more.

You have a great point Leggy, but you also speak the truth by saying Uncharted is awesome in general!

The begining of Final Fantasy seven on the ps1 was epic for me. I fell in love with Aries when i first saw her selling flowers in the slums, and then seeing her knocked down, what a lot of emotion displayed there.

Hmm it would have to be God of War 2, God of War 3, or Bayonetta. Both had very epic openings and I love that for the beginning since I know the game will be good (hopefully).

I like the opening sequence for Tales of Graces F... it has a lot of foreshadowing for the plot of the game, which I felt was neat. I don't know what I'd call my favorite, though... I play a lot of JRPGs which tend to use anime-like opening sequences. One of the first to do that was probably Tales of Phantasia for the PS1.

Oh my god, there are no words to express how stoked I was when I saw this thread. I was excited to come in here and put down Tales of the Abyss, only to see that OP had the same thought! Tales of the Abyss is an awesome game and I hardly see anyone talk about it.

The opening to this game is amazing and has stuck with me for years since I watched it. The music is just catchy and uplifting as all get out, and the video is fun and awesome. The whole thing just gives me goosebumps. Definitely my all time favorite. I've wasted so much time just letting it keep idling out on the opening screen and going through the video again. <3

I also love the Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and Birth by Sleep intros.

KG : I think the thing I like best about the opening song to Abyss (Karma) is that they remixed it several times over and used it in other places in the game. That was really neat and made the game's soundtrack feel a bit more epic in a way. My favorite of those remixes was The Meaning of Birth. It made that duel really feel more powerful.

Off the top of my head, "Willow" for the NES. It concisely creates a brand new mythology--one which has a very strong mythic quality indeed (and which technically doesn't contradict the film either, although it is a strange interpretation), the fire effects are cool, and the music is some of the best in gaming history.

And KG: "OP" means "opening post".

OP can mean opening post I guess. I use it for Original Poster. By which I mean, whoever started the thread. So that'd be themojogamer75, hah.

So if I say something about OP, usually I'm referring to who made the first post rather than the first post itself. It depends on the context.

Anywho, I remembered how much I love the openings to Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant. I love the music, the graphics, how everything is lined up. They're really well done.

I'll be honest, my favorite video game opening cinematic has to be The Legend of Dragoon's. I started playing that game when I was young, and still in love with my PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 games. The intro just has sentimental value to me, and the music stands out as well.

I would have to say either of the kingdom hearts games, even if they were beyond confusing. They were so well done coupled with the odd but good music. It just made me want to play the game just to find out what the opening cut scene was about

That's A Hard One.
I'd Probably go with "Devil May Cry."
Any of them. (Note: only 1-4. I haven't played part 5.) They all Rock.
I want to say "Rise Of The Argonauts" But You Kinda Play through that whole opening. And... I have a different experience with that game than most people do. I can't play that game without having odd effects. Back in 1998. My instructor from High School wanted to teach the class this tale but couldn't. So, she selected pieces of different works that were in the ciriculum that would make a "Frankenstein" version of that story. Beyond Ten years later I pop in a disk I paid 9.99 for and my brain is going to places I never thought it would venture to ever again. It gets creepy being able to finish characters sentences to a tale you never read let alone thought about for ten years. Kinda cool too. Who knew my teacher could teach a common man how to talk and make choices like an Ideal king from antiquity. Years after the fact even.
Though that entry would be too strange and odd for folks to take in.
I could make references to similarities to "Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link" but that would be a streach. And a "Cop out."
So Jason gets put on hold for the kids. Dante gets the prize.
Devil May Cry scores for my entry. (Part 3 for those who want details.)
That's it. I'm Done. Stick a Fork in Me.
Peace.

Mr_Ronok : Wait... Either of them? You do realize that there are about 7 games in the series right? Anyway I love the openings to the KH games as well. I actually don't find the story that confusing. Apparently I'm in the minority with that though.
