This game is extremely disappointing. For a game made by Activision you would expect a lot more.

GAMEPLAY F: Ghostbusters would make for an excellent side scrolling shooter. Instead you drive the Ghostbusters logo around a dull city buying items and catching ghosts that you can hardly reach. To find a building with ghosts you move around the city finding buildings that blink red. You then go to the building and then are tortured by a long driving stage. Why does it exist? I don't know, but it looks like your right next to the building. So why do you have to drive on a highway again to get there?  That's only part of this horrible game.

GRAPHICS D-: The visuals are dull and generic, and the ghosts look like retards. Couldn't Activision add better visuals to the game? There's not many colors in the game, and there's a few weird size perspectives as well. You'll be asking, "why is the car larger than the gas station.

SOUND D: The 8 bit version of the Ghostbusters song is great, but its the only song in the game, and it rarely ends. It just goes on and on and on. Eventually you will just want to turn off the sound. The sound effects are okay, but the sound in general is just lousy.

ADDICTIVENESS D-: I played this game for nearly 5 minutes and I already got bored. This game is quite short however so you might be able to beat the game without falling asleep.

DEPTH D-: There's the catching ghosts part, the driving part, the navigating part, the horrendous Zuul building part, and the final battle. If you don't count the store, the gas station, and the Ghostbusters headquarters you only got about 5 screens. Super Mario Bros had 36 levels. Ghostbusters the video game should have been a side scrolling shooter and not some lame tedious game that does not even have a genre.

DIFFICULTY MEDIUM: The game is quite easy in the beginning, but once you enter the Zull building, the game becomes relentless, there's ghosts trying to kill you and you can't do anything to kill them.

OVERALL RATING D-

Tips:
1. Buy the Super trap instead of the regular trap first, it will cost you more money, but you don't have to empty it.
2. Get a ghost vacuum so you can get cash on the road by sucking up ghosts.

Upcoming reviews
Streets of Rage (Genesis)
Sonic Advance 3 (GBA)
Super Mario World (SNES)
Pilotwings 64 (N64)

I can't review Sonic Colors because there's no Sonic Colors page on this website and I can't review road avenger yet because I don't have enough Viz to buy the beta test ticket. I will review it once I get the beta test ticket.

This game suck. I mean it is not that fun to play a lot, and the game play doesn't fit a game like this. Sheesh why you are a car in a Ghostbuster game. Great review as always.

It's a map screen and you're plotting your course. Supposedly the longer a route you take--the more you move around on the screen--the longer the drive will be, although I've never noticed any difference.

"Ghostbusters" is probably the single worst NES game I've ever played. A high contender for the worst game period. At least "E.T." is mercifully short and doesn't drive you insane with constantly looping music. In fact, if not for the board refusing to let you post twice in a row I would go back into that "worst games" thread and say so there. This is a pretty good answer.

Then again I could always edit it in....

One of the worst NES games made, although I have to give it to Action 52 being the worst NES game period. It was ridiculously overpriced for one, I think it cost over $200; yes that's $200 back in the late 1980's which is a lot more than $200 today. But aside from that, Ghostbusters for the NES is easily a very close contender.

I mean "fiadpofigiesjdfogfpo" that looping music Over and over and over and over and over and over again. Way to ruin a really catchy theme song!

EDIT: Fixing typos like a baws.

Definitely for hardcore players, 7080, as it's inordinately difficult, but only at the end. Bear in mind, though, before you feel you're being drawn to a forbidden fruit, that there is good hard and bad hard. "Super R Type" is crazy difficulty done well. So is "Battletoads". "Ghostbusters"...well, *nothing* about it is done well. Some games have too much grinding: it is almost nothing *but* grinding. Some games have dreary visuals: "Ghostbusters" should be used to decorate prisons. Some games have irritating and repetitive music: "Ghostbusters" does not stop repeating the same loop for the entire hour of gameplay. And...and I'm just making you want to play it all the more, aren't I?
