So I have a question in regards to the limits imposed on double-posting (two post made in a row by the same user). Why are they so strict? I've never seen another forum block them so aggressively before. Now I understand that you wouldn't want someone just spamming a bunch of post 5 minutes apart... but it seems like the time limit between posts is infinite. I bet I could go back a week later into my thread and still get denied. There are some cases where posting again would be practical too.

I've made a few threads now where I wanted to share things I've made with people. I maybe got a little interest initially and posted more but then no further responses. Now if I have an update in that thread, I can't post again. And no one is seeing this thread as having new posts anymore, so they're probably missing it at this point (especially during the TDV where everyone is just monitoring "New Posts" all day long) so there's little chance of be getting further replies to free up the thread for me to post again. It seems I'm stuck and all my threads will die.

What I don't understand is why the system can't allow the person to post again if it's been a reasonable amount of time since the last post... say 24 hours. I wanted to share some music I made, but the whole thread is kinda botched now because I didn't realize this restriction was what it was until after I set my format. Now I've kinda given up on the idea due to the lack of response.

I also wanted to share a story I've been writing, but I need responses to post more installments. I could have posted the whole thing up-front, but I have like 20,000 words typed up and I figured that'd be cheating the TDV, so I just posted the first thousand or so words.

I can't tell if it's just that nobody cares about any of the stuff I make and that'll never change, or I just need the opportunity to share a little bit more before people stumble across and give some feedback.

Honestly, I agree. Although I understand how multi-posting can be troublesome, I can't think of any good reason why you shouldn't be able to bump or otherwise add to a post which may require more than one. A word or time limit could be imposed to assure that the postings were not spam, and although you run the risk of double-posting, that seems to happen very rarely from what I have seen.

Crazy Li : I might be able to answer some of your questions. Only because I've been on the site for some time now and have had site staff and moderators help me out with knowing a lot of the rules. So first thing's first, They have an edit post features, that you can add information to some of your posts so you can get better replies. That's one of the reason's double posting isn't allowed. And I can understand that because a lot of people would chest and try doing that to win the TDV. I'm not 100% sure that's the reason but I am guessing that's part of the reason.

I don't know if there is a word limit posts. That you would have to wait for a staff member or a moderator to answer that for you.

It's strict because we think it's wrong. It's that simple.

You made the argument for bumps, and generally, bumping isn't really reccommended. Let dead threads die. If you have an update, there's an edit post button, you can even edit the thread title to say that there's an update in the latest post. Really, there are a lot of way to get the update in without having to bump the post.

Also, I think that anyone of trusted rank or higher CAN double post, but they really shouldn't in most cases. I'm not 100% positive on that, so don't quote me on it. I know as staff I can double post in the rare case I absolutely need to. (such as during mod selection periods, where a lot of information is being tossed out)

But generally speaking, if you are the last post in a thread, and it's been a significant amount of time since the last post, odds are the thread is completely dead. It takes more than one person to make a thread work, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

I hope I was able to give you the answer you seek without being too nasty about it.

SunflowerGaming : I'm well-aware of the edit feature, but that's not very helpful for the scenario I described. Editing your post doesn't it bump it back up at all so if it's been like a week and has long fallen down out of view of people checking for new posts, editing it and adding more won't accomplish anything. It'll just put stuff in your post that no one will read.

Editing is good if you need to make a correction after you just posted or something to that effect... or have a minor change or a tiny bit of info to add/update that doesn't warrant a new post... but sometimes a fresh post is required. If you had a time limit imposed on it (like you can't re-post for 24 hours), this would prevent people from cheating the TDV or VCS competitions since they can't get that second post in until a day later anyway. I don't even mind if the time gap is greater than 24 hours... 48... 72... just as long as it's possible to go back to the thread and make a new post within a reasonable time frame... especially in your own thread. I don't think it would be that easy to abuse if you have to wait a day or more for that next post.

EDIT: Just read legacyme3's response now... (he snuck that in there somehow). Fine. I'll concede to just give up on all my thread ideas if they don't get posts. I just suspect that the TDV taking place now is affecting people's responses in my threads (people just post in threads where they can get away with short responses that don't require a lot of thought rather than ones where they hafta read all that I posted or listen to/view something before they can respond)... but I'll just take your word for it and assume that nobody cares what I hafta share with them.

Crazy Li : He didn't say no one will ever read and reply to your posts, you're really misunderstanding what he was saying. He's saying that you can't add multiple replies just to bump up your thread. So there it's encouraged to wait until two or more people reply and then go from there. That's how I understand it. I could be wrong.

And I definitely don't post short posts for the TDV. I take ALL day, and I do mean from the time I wake up until the Midnight, server time and post in threads that I have to read all the replies and then make my reply. I am making sure I don't cheat in anyway shape or form. I am viewing this competition like it's a job so I know I won't slack off.

I wasn't suggesting that you take the cheap way out for replies... but I'm sure there are some people who do. People who see a long post for something like a story... or something that links to a video or music clip that they hafta take the time to listen to and they just close and go onto the next thread for something they can reply to really fast. No, not everyone does that... but I wouldn't be surprised if some people are just to get more posts in at a higher rate each day.

Unfortunately that's how forums are these days. Full of 14 year olds who only care about boosting an arbitary number that doesn't mean jack s***.

Intelligent thought? On a forum?

And it's exactly what you said. The Tour de Vizzed rewards bunches of posting. Sure, posting a s*** ton can't get you the red, but it can get you blue and green, and with a LOT of persistence, the Yellow.

That's why I find most people seem to ignore the Red, which is unfortunate, since generally those who do well in the Red are high quality posters, who don't have as much time in a day to post 100 times as those who compete for the blue and green.

Intelligent thought is something that isn't really responded to when the target audience are a bunch of 14 year olds, who don't care for writing and english in general. If it's not about a video game, a youtube celebrity, or involve the ability to make a 10 word post about how they agree with the post above them, then it doesn't really interest them.

It doesn't help the Stories/Simulation forum is insanely inactive, even in non competition months. It's one of the less used forums on site I believe.

Here are some numbers from a couple forums (T-P - Thread-Posts)

Forum T-P
Stories 1,136-15,728
Crazy House 1,070-66,237
Polls/Questions 1,349-32,734
Vizzed Market 1,334-20,685

The numbers kind of speak for themselves.

I suppose you make a fair point. I neglected the age demographic of this website in my annoyance at my situation. I'm also used to being parts of forums that have a 18+ majority in its membership base, so I guess this is a bit new to me. I've seen members here as young as 10, which is not something I'm used to. I have to keep that in mind.

Though I think Stories sections of any forum that isn't build specifically FOR roleplaying and stories has very little activity. I've seen it before at other forums even with an adult majority. That section was still the most ignored. At one site, I was named mod of the "Writer's Corner" section of the forum and tried some contests and other incentives to boost reading and writing and general involvement in the section... didn't really help much at all.

Crazy Li :

If a thread is really buried, you can always try asking a Global Mod to bump it (PM the Global Inbox). They can make the decision to bump a thread so that you can post again.

If the subject is different enough, you may be able to get away with making a second thread. If the subject is too similar it may be called a dupe and get closed, but if it's different enough you'll be fine. You can also include a link to the old thread.

Crazy Li : Yeah, the general age of the users here is a pretty big thing to consider. If the majority were 18+ years old, I would agree with you 100%. It will become more and more clear to ya the longer you are on. This is what tends to happen:
1. Users get more freedom and privileges with a new feature
2. The freedom and privileges get abused by many younger users
3. New feature has to become regulated and freedoms are taken away

It can get frustrating, but that is how it is

This thread can probably be closed since the issue has been thoroughly explained and the complaint is over.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
