I noticed that some threads get buried before they ever get notice. I figured I'd suggest the ability for users to bump threads. Not unlimited though. With the following limits, possibly:

- Pay 100 Viz per bump
- 5 Bumps Maximum Per Day
- Each thread can only be bumped once every four days
- A new thread is treated as "bumped" (meaning, it can not be bumped until it's existed for four days)

It's not against the rules to bump threads that are on the first page or two really.

The only time bumping is against the rules, is when the last post in that thread is old. And I'm talking months old.

If a topic doesn't have any posts after 2 months... it's not buried, it's just uninteresting.

And when you bump, you are expected to add something to the conversation.

legacyme3 :

Well, I was more referring to literal push-button-to-bump for people who made threads that haven't gotten a response in awhile. No posting necessary. (Mainly due to the fact that double-posting is not even possible, whether allowed or not.)

If it helps make things clearer... the suggestion popped into my mind because I was going to go and post another video in my "Tycoon" game thread but it's not been posted in in a few days and I have the last post. Add in my OCD for neatness and I just won't post until somebody else does.

This isn't your problem; it's just the root of what caused me to make the suggestion.

You're talking about a promoted post, and although doing it for Viz would be an exceedingly bad idea--that is, it would encourage spam, and users who make a lot of poor posts would just keep them pinned to the top of the boards--perhaps paying real cash to bump a thread could be a possible source of income for the board...

So say, instead of donating $25 to the board, a user can send $25 to be put into their Vizzed Wallet, and spend $5 or whatever to "pin" a thread to the top of the list for the next n days.

Yeah, I honestly don't care if someone bumps an old thread if they add more to the conversation. it is when you have users who start bumping thread after thread for sake of posts (often for VCS or TDV). If we had a thread bump button, that would just be open season for people to spam posts with no repercussions for bumping a lot of old threads. It would be them saying "I paid the Viz to bump it, so it's fair".

What if the bump button didn't actually make a credited post? That might at least reduce the desire to bump for the sake of post numbers or make low quality posts.

Though such a system might be hard to implement and harder to control. I can see it getting chaotic anyway. It sounds very difficult to manage in a way that won't make things get out of hand.

Even with listening to all of these suggestions, the main problem I find with this is that new threads will never have a chance to really sprout. Because there will be threads flying up to the top too easily; meaning that the more bumps there are; the faster new threads and even 'paid to bump' threads will go back down the list and then be buried again even easier than they were before.

What Crazy Li mentioned - I had suggested it in the mind without creating a credited post. Literally, just a button. It would do nothing more than bump the thread to the top of the forum any time it was hit.

And again, the suggested options:

- Max 3 times to a person per day
--- Could possibly require an item to be bought too? An item that would have to be purchased regularly. (1 Item = 1 Bump)

- Threads cannot be bumped more than once every 96 hours by /any/ person.
--- As in, as soon as the thread is bumped, nobody is allowed to bump it again until the 48 hours is up.
--- Could be increased

So I have to ask, sheerly out of curiosity, how could it be spammed in the manner everyone is speaking of?

Ktanaqui :

Let's put it like this.

If there is an interesting thread, it doesn't need to get bumped right?

If it's not being posted in, and it gets bumped, people will take it as a license to spam, since it wasn't getting replies anyway.

Especially in the Tour de Vizzed.

People don't post in threads that require thought because it's too hard.

As such, the only threads that would be bumped are the intelligent ones, and they still wouldn't get posts, because they are uninteresting to the general populace. The only posts that would happen through process of elimination are the spammy ones that bump the threads to begin with.

The reason people bump threads 95% of the time, is to increase their arbitary post count. And if you bump the thread for them, they'll post the exact same low quality post that people complain about.

In essence, it'd be pointless to have a bump button, since nothing new would happen, except enabling spam to happen quicker and easier. At least as it is now, they have to SEARCH for a thread they haven't posted in to bump.

I don't really see a feature maxing it sat 3 is necessary. Contrary to what a lot of people say, thread bumping itself is not against the rules. Only if people are thread bumping time after time. It is particularly considered intolerable if signs point to them doing it for the sake of boosting their post count. But if people see threads that they would like to give their input in, they are more than free to do so even if it hasn't had activity for a long time. If users just be responsible with how often/many threads they are bumping, they aren't doing anything wrong. I think that incorporating an item system would just encourage a lot of users to bump 3 old times a day to stay within that max just for the sake of boosting post numbers. I feel it is better to just have mods keep an eye on it and say something if they notice a user doing it too much.

legacyme3 :

That actually makes complete sense. I didn't think of it that way. (It's too bad that people are so lazy now...)

Rcarter:

Alright, thank you. I was not actually aware of that.

Then, I'd say this thread is done with & the suggestion is unnecessary~
