Has anyone here ever had a friend who was completely obsessed with you? I am sure most of you know I have had one of those before. Only she got to the point of being dangerous. Anyway, anyone else have any friends who seemed to be too obsessed with you or want to be aroudn you a little too much?

When I was 19, I became friends with a girl, her Mom was friends with my Mom kind of situation. She didn't have many friends and I felt sorry for her. Long story short, she got obsessed with me. She first wanted to be around me ALL the time and then she eventually became like psychotically dangerous. I am no longer friends with her, THANK GOD! I just wanted to see if anyone else here has dealt with a similar situation.

Yes this girl named Chelsea wouldn't leave me alone ever since i gave her a hug in like the 6 grade she's been following me around its like she is a stalker. I've lost 3 girlfriends because she would go and tell them that she love me way more than they love me and junk. Till this day i still can't get rid of her.

mr.keys : Oh, that's scary. Be careful because that's how my ex-friend now stalker started out. She didn't like have feelings for me but she'd get angry whenever I was with other friends. It's like she wanted me to only pay attention to her and no one else. She even wanted me to ignore my older sister and we would hang out. I don't think so. Family always comes first with me. But yeah, she sure does seem obsessed with you. All over a hug? WOW, someone has lost her marbles major! LOL.

SunflowerGaming : lol thats what i was saying i couldn't even turn my head without seeing her. She still trys to walk with me so i run away or cover my face.

Singelli : It makes me wonder why people do this and why they think it's normal. I honestly don't get it. Any thoughts?

SunflowerGaming :  I'm really not sure Sunflower.  I think that those kids just have a REALLLY severe need for SOMEONE to pay them attention.  Everyone wants to be 'liked', especially when they're young.  Even though I was the shy quite nerd, if the snotty girls I hated praised how smart I was, it always made me proud of myself (even though I didn't like them).  The students who try to attach themselves to my hip? Maybe they simply can't make friends because they are too awkward, so when one person pays them some mind, it makes them happy, and they want to continue being happy.

Singelli : That makes a lot of sense. I feel that kind of "obsession" is a healthy obsession. What I am referring to, in wanting to know the reasons why is with those who get dangerously obsessed. For example, a girl gets so obsessed with her friend that she starts dressing like her, acting like her and then gets to the point of wanting to get rid of that friend and take over that person's life. Of course that wouldn't be possible and everyone who knows the person she is obsessed with won't understand her trying to do that, but in her mind, she thinks it's okay. See what I mean? The kind you're talking about is actually healthy. It might even help them open up and make more friends. And then they aren't so attached to the other person.

SunflowerGaming :  Oh, yes, I see what you mean now.  I don't know that any obsession is healthy, but I think that the 'healthiness' of it depends on the OTHER person.  For example, if I can see that a child is becoming a little obsessed with me (hanging around my room all the time even though they don't have my class, stopping by every day during lunch, following me around the school, etc), I think it's the responsible, caring thing for me to TRY and guide that student into more socially acceptable habits.  I'm not going to sit there and say "Hey Shelly, you're extremely awkward', but I can try and model appropriate behavior, and somehow get them to interact with peers that I know are patient and kind.

The other type of obsession IS worrisome, and it's quite scary.  I don't understand the need to be like another person.  At what point does such an obsession get THAT deep?  You are quite correct...that's a very hard question to answer.

I'm not sure if any of my true friends are OBSESSED with me... but most of them are really into me... Most of the people I've met who are actually obsessed with me are people who see me at message boards and whatnot and strangely become obsessed with me without even really knowing me o.O

Well people who see me as their leader in scouting seem to have a little obsessed view of me, just in a "teach me all you know" sort of thing.  Then there was one girl who was, but who ended up being a little too obsessive

It seems like there are more than one category of obsessions. They're the normal, "You're my friend and I love hanging out with you", then there's the "I'm so obsessed with you that I'm really hella annoying". And finally "I'm so obsessed with you, I'll kill you and want to be you and live your life." I've had problems with the very last one. No fun at all. I've never really had the annoying one yet, and of course I've had some of the healthy, I'm your friend kind. There are probably other levels of obsession but with the replies I've gotten, these seem to be the most common ones. So when I said there are healthy forms of obsession, its not really obsession as in I'm totally annoying or psycho, but the, I love the kind of person you are and want to be around people like you more.

I suppose I could say that I have. I don't mind it though; My best friend is really sweet. And it is not like he stalks me or anything. But we do talk a lot, which is pretty awesome. He makes it a big deal to try to help me when he can.

Ktanaqui : Yeah that sounds like the healthy kind. Even though I wouldn't really think of that as being obsessive.

Well. I'd say it's healthy right up to the point where depression becomes a problem when we can't see each other. (Which, honestly? I suppose that's still healthy too if you have a best friend that is so important as this.) That's the only reason I categorize it as "obsessive."

Ktanaqui : I don't want to pry, but may I ask why you think it may be considered obsessive? And I can understand what it feels like if you can't see a friend you're really close to. It can be hard, especially if they help you when you need someone.

Well... it's not a bad obsessive. We both go way out of our way to make sure that we get time to spend with each other, regardless of what's going on around us. To the point of where it has actually been problematic with our lives outside of each other. On more than one occasion, we have pulled all-nighters simply because we didn't want to say good night. And there's lots of other little stuff that, by itself doesn't seem so, but when combined with everything else... yea, a little bit more obvious.

SunflowerGaming : The online people who get obsessive definitely fall into the "annoying" category. They just bug me constantly and go overboard. I don't mind attention from close friends though.
