I don't, because I believe that all time occurs at once (and as humans we only perceive it to happen in a linear fashion). So, if you were God, you'd see everything all at once. Actually, anyone outside of our universe would be able to (but only God IS outside our universe, so yeah). With this in mind, humans would practically have a very hard time to time travel since they're there. As in, right now, Eve is biting the apple and I am dying and I'm also being born. It's sort of like a river, time being the water, and it always flows everywhere at once.

What are your thoughts on this? Please put it in a way that's easy to understand!

P.S. I'm not sure I explained it right, sorry if I confused you. Also, you may have derived from my message, I do believe in God.

I do not believe in time travel. The reason why is because I believe time is always in constant motion, never ceasing or going backward. We are always heading into the future; every second of every minute of every hour of every day...(you get the idea). If time travel were possible then that would mean Time could be stopped, fast-fowarded, or rewinded at will; which in my opinion goes against the laws of physics.

No I don't believe it, because it is physically impossible. They transport all the atoms, cell, and everything else into somewhere else in the past. Also I think it just wrong to mess around with time.

According to the current accepted models of the universe, time travel is not only possible, it happens all the time, just not in the way you think. Quantum mechanically, (And in N-dimensional branespace) all time and all possibilities occur simultaneously.

But more than that, particles pop into and out of existence all the time, and sometimes travel back and forward in time through miniature wormholes willy nilly. Heck, there's probably a wormhole in your house right now!

If this were the case, time travel would happen all the time, whenever one "layer" of time bumped into another. Although... Thinking about it, this could very well explain things like ghosts, out of body experiences, deja vu, and past lives.

Bu-bu-but... but there's nothing in the laws of physics that says time travel is impossible!

Lazlo Falconi: I guess I should have used a better choice of words, lol. So assuming that particles pop into and out of existence, is it theoritically possible that anti-matter particles could pop into existence not just regular particle matter?

Nope i don't believe in time travel because i asked everybody at school even the teachers if time travel exists and they all said no with this funny looking smirk on they face.

I believe in time travel.  After all, we're all traveling into the future right now.  You're older than you were.  You've seen new things happen that haven't happened before.  You're experiencing new things and you're traveling through time.

Time is a measurement like miles, inches, gallons, and any other quantifiable amount.  We can count seconds, minutes, hours, and so forth.  Going forward means you have a start and an end point and there's not one single thing we can measure that only has one start and one end.  All lines have both directions.  Top and bottom change when you change your perspective.

I believe we travel through time but we simply can't experience it in a single conscious.  You're making countless decisions all the time and there are a massive number of you doing something else.  10 billion (A guess) of me are doing 10 billion other things as I travel along time.  And I can see only one.  The others are all experiencing the same thing.... but one time.

Boom!

Mobouis1 :

Yes, indeed. Time is not the fourth dimension as many people think, and it certainly isn't malleable or controllable. We as humans can't do anything to it. In fact, if Time were to stop somehow (but it won't), we WOULDN'T KNOW IT because we'd either a) be frozen, or b) wouldn't understand what happened, since it is in our nature to view Time as never-ending, and, anyway, our clocks would keep going. Clock time is different from Time, btw. So if we can't even know if anything happened to Time, what makes us think we can CHANGE it or go around through it and skipping different parts? Time, like Death, is for God to play with.

Well I have to say if time travel really existed I would be nervous and somewhat excited at the same time, mainly because I'd hate to see all the things that I hated in the past.

I personally do not believe in time travel. However, my husband is a bit iffy on the subject.  Time is a dimension that we are subjected to and God is not though, which is pretty interested to think about.

Oldschool41 : It is possible, and assuming particles actually do pop into existence as theorized, then anti-particles also must do the same. There is no way to have one without the other, because, for example, a positron and an electron are the same thing, except one is positively charged, and one is negatively charged. But that's for another thread.

Yes, indeed. Time is not the fourth dimension

This word dimension, I do not think it means what you think it means. I dimension is a unit of measurement. There's length, width, depth and time. We live in four-dimensional space-time and to say we don't means there is no time. You should read Stephen Hawkings' A Brief History of Time, it will give you a bit more perspective on how, although traveling backwards in time is effectively impossible for us, time travel in and of itself is not theoretically impossible.

Lazlo Falconi: That would be kind of scary if an anti-matter particle could pop into existance. That would be an instant annhilation wherever part of space that anti-matter happens to pop into.

This topic is fun by the way.

Oldschool41 : Not really. Positrons exist naturally on Earth, they're a normal part of radioactive decay. All that happens is a positron hangs out for a minute until it comes into contact with an electron and annihilate each other, releasing a very powerful (But undetectable without the proper equipment) burst of energy.

I think time travel is complete fiction. If it was possible, I think people would know how to do it by now. Or someone would be so power hungry, they'd use it for evil, so to speak, and they'd be found out by now. Just my opinion.

No, time travel is definitely not real. These cartoons be putting fictional things inside these kids brains these days making them believe everything they see on tv. Time travel is not real and i honestly think it will never be real because the world is getting a little stupider by the minute.

Also assuming that Time Travel is possible; how do we solve some of the paradox's that will come up if we do something to screw with the past that effects the future (Grandfather and Hitler paradox).

If Time travel is indeed possible, you'd have to break down all your molecules, transport them back, and then reassemble them... It would be very possible that half of them are lost and you lost half your body or an arm or something similar. That's why I always hated it when they did the instant-transport thing in Star Trek...
