An Ever Changing Story: Alex Tingle

Prologue: How it began

"Wake up," my mother says, "It's time to do your chores Soleil." I do as instructed. I first look in my mirror on the wall, so I can braid my hair, as I normally do, the blond hair, with silver flecks, intertwining into What looks like a sunrise, or at least that's what I'm told, I for one can't stand the color of my hair, I want to color it black, but mother tells me it is an evil color, the opposite of my golden hair. Nevertheless I proceed outside the cabin and start on my chores. First I wash our clothes in the village stream, downstream of course, as not to taint the drinking water, after this is done I pin them up to dry, this is the easiest of my chores, but not as fun as my last, picking herbs. This has always been a favorite activity of mine, not just because it gives me some freedom, to roam the edge of the woods, but the herbs allow my mother, the local medicine woman to heal the sick, and I take great pride in that. As I finish the last of my chores I turn towards the village, but suddenly something catches my eye.

End of Chapter Poll:
Rules: Through replies tell which one you like best, in a week I will announce the winner, and shortly thereafter write a new chapter based on the most popular scenario

Scenarios: What did Soleil find

Scenario 1: An amulet with untold power
Scenario 2: A passed out female traveler
Scenario 3: A passed out male traveler

Please feel free to comment on ideas for the scenario you chose, but no spamming.

I shall vote... Scenario 2! I think it'd be an interesting development.

I'm offering a way for people to be interested, from now on you will get 30 Viz per vote, remember only one vote per chapter, and I will give 50 Viz to any who voted before this offer came up. Sorry i haven't posted in a while. It took me forever to realize i couldn't double post, glad i noticed the edit button. I was also sick and didn't feel like posting. Thank you for being patient. The winner was the female traveler (of course only one voter).

Chapter 1: The Traveler

The girl I found in the forest was badly injured, even worse mother almost refused to help her, because her hair was black, the 'evil' color. "Will she be alright?" I calmly ask mother.

"I don't know Soleil," mother begins, "but the best thing we can do is pray to the Goddess."

"You always say that!" I shout as I hop out of my seat, "When will you learn, mother, that you can't always ask a spirit, who might I add no one's ever met, to help you with your problems. It didn't keep father from dying."

I stare at mother, tears running down her cheek, as i turn around out of guilt, and head out the door.

"Where am I?" a meek voice inquires. I turn around and see it is the girl with black hair.

"How long have you been awake?" I happily ask as I rush towards her.

"When the fighting started," she weakly says, "I think. Now again where am I?"

"Why you are in Acracia village," mother replies, her face showing no emotion, like usual. "My house, the clinic, to be exact. My name is Ivy, and that is my daughter Soleil, and your name is?"

"Raven," the girl replies.

"Well, Raven" I remark, "what all do you remember before waking up?"

"Just the last bit I'm afraid," she answers, "I was running from...I don't remember what. I was carrying...that's it, did you find a satchel near me."

"Yeah," I begin as I reach under the bed, and pull out a leather bag, "this?"

"Oh, yes, thank you Lady Soleil!" she exclaims, no one's ever been that formal with me; at this point mother has started on a balm for Raven's wounds. "All that's in here is a book."

"Maybe a diary, perhaps," I respond.

"Maybe," Raven agrees, "no, look I didn't even write it."

"Nimture Sanoir," I read as I scooch onto the bed, "why does that last name sound so familiar?"

"The sage," mother answers, almost scaring me to the nether, I swear she could sneak up on the 'Goddess' if she wanted to.

"The sage?" Raven questions.

"It's an old legend," mother continues as she mixes the balm, "there is a cave in the forest, or at least that's what they say, where an old sage lives. A mysterious being cloaked in shadows, dipped in the flames of the nether, and able to control wandering spirits; everyone calls him Sanoir."

"Okay, that's my destination," Raven begins, "I know it's dangerous, but if I had a guide maybe I could..."

"I'll go," I respond, "I've been in the forest."

"Only the edge," mother corrects, "and you're not going."

"Mother," I begin.

"It's alright," Raven replies as to stave off another argument, "give me time to heal, and I should be fine." The days went by slowly but Raven's words held true, she was ready to leave in a week, our strongest workers couldn't even heal that fast. The day before Raven had to leave finally arrived, and I was determined to go with her. I woke up around midnight, and started on my preparations, I left a note for mother on my bed, and I grabbed two of my frocks, as Raven and I wore the same size clothing. I worked my way downstairs with these and retrieved Raven's satchel, to store them in.

"What are you doing?" Raven whispered, as I stood up with the now full Satchel.

"I'm going with you," I respond just as quietly, "and before you ask, I already left a note for mother." We made our way to the forest quietly, yet hastily. We arrived at a cave by sunrise.

"This is it," Raven says.

"Are you sure?" I ask, "I've never been out this far before."

"I can feel it," Raven responds, "This is the first step to regaining my memory."

We cautiously make our way into the cavern.

"Hey look," I command as I point at a torchlight down one path, we make our way towards it, until Raven stops, "What's wrong?"

"No this isn't right," Raven responds.

"What are you talking about," I chuckle as I move towards the torch, "light means people."

"Soleil, look at the torch," I do as instructed and notice it has turned violet, "come back."

"I can't," I say as I turn around, I come face to face with, something almost like glass, a barrier of some sort.

"Okay," Raven contemplates, "I know it contradicts what I just said, but go ahead, I'll take this other path they have to meet somewhere."

"I guess," I halfheartedly say, there's no telling what awaits me.

2: Learns something of her past

3: Both

Notice, I know this thread is kind of dead, but i have a huge anouncement, I will enter this story into nanowrimo(national novel writing month) on their official site nanowrimo.org, this coming November, which is nanowrimo. However, it will no longer be open to the public opinion. Also it is now much darker and edgier of what I've written down, I have altered how the chapters posted are told, more cynical, as I believe that is truer to Soleil's character, and I have revealed more backstory, such as how her father died, and the local deities.
