Well, as the title says, have you watched an anime which you thought wouldn't be that good, but in the end it actually turned out to be great? For me, the anime that fits best would probably be Tantei Opera Milky Holmes.

I began thinking that it was just another moeblob anime with loli girls and a jackass story, but it had so much retarded humor and a very likable cast, very good music/OST, so when I had watched all of the episodes, I was still craving for more.

Do you have animes of the same kind? Tell me below!

I had low expectations for K-On because I'm not a person that likes to watch anime that is about music or singing. I always found those boring. But I actually gave K-On a shot and it was pretty good. The characters are interesting and fun. I like anime's with those type of characters.

Before I watched it, I was mainly just looking for action anime, thinking anything like Kanon or Clannad (Which I was offered before Kanon) was going to be really boring and uninteresting. I was thoroughly shocked at how much I loved Kanon, and now I prefer that genre over action, Nya~.

Dragon Head surprised me, I was thinking when I first read the manga that it probably wasn't my choice in reading material but it blew me away. It is sort of this apocotlyptic Japan that these students get stuck in and some go crazy while others try to make sense of what is going on and get out of this blocked off train tunnel it was really interesting. I don't really know if there is an anime version of it, but the manga is a good read I suggest it.

You know I wasn't really going to watch Gurren lagaan but I thought what the hey and tried it. About after a few episodes I wanted more and more! I believe I was addicted then when I got to the last episodes I think that I really about cried. The characters are really great you bond with all of them and it is just a really well put together machine anime.

Definitely Mars Daybreak. I didn't actually expect anything from the show. I just watched it on a whim because I noticed that I recognized pretty much the entire cast (English VA wise). I figured if nothing else, it might be fun to hear a bunch of voices I was familiar with. In the end, I actually turned out enjoying the show a lot, despite it involving mechs and I REALLY don't like mech anime normally.

Clannad. I was looking for something completely different but I found that and I was like "Oh....another teenage love/romance." But I actually ended up really enjoying it for awhile. It had a much deeper storyline and plot then I would have expected.

I had pretty low expectations for the short anime series Toradora simply because it wasn't one of the long-running 200+ episode shonen anime that I had been used to watching. It was so different in that everything was about everyday life & I found myself enjoying it so much more than other anime I had watched. Most likely because as opposed to characters of the shonen genre, the characters in these slice of life anime are much more relateable.
