So, what's a gaming dry spell you may ask? Why, it's a dry spell related to gaming. What's a dry spell? Oh, well the actual definition of it is a drought, but in this case, it means a lack of productivity, or activity. So a gaming dry spell, of course, means that you can't find any games that you can really play, and you don't really enjoy the games you play. You know when you have that period after you find a game, and you play it for the first time, and all you can think is, "Wow, this is incredible!" or, "I'm really getting into this!" well that's when you know, that that's what you're going to be playing for the next few weeks.
So now that we know what a gaming dry spell is (if you have any questions, just ask), why do we have them? After you've been playing a game for a little while, or after you've finished it, usually you seep out of the game's virtual grasp, and move onto something else. This is probably because you've been milking the game so hard of it's awesomeness, that (1) you're getting bored and are finding that there's not much left to do in it, or (2) you're moving out of the one game and into another. For some games, this can take as few as a week, but for others, it can take years. But there are times when after you've moved out of a game (usually because of option 1), you're having trouble finding another game to move into. Keep in mind that a dry spell does not mean that you've given up gaming completely, it just means that you're not playing the game as often as you can (within your own boundaries).
Alright, so why did I make this thread? Well, because I am going through one of these dry spells. I've kind of been playing my usual games (Minecraft, Fallout 3, things like that) on a regular basis, but there's been no game that I'm all like, "Whoa! I just discovered this and I think it's awesome!" So I'm asking you people, this very question...
What's a game that I should check out? Don't try to reply without reading the list of criteria I am about to mention!-In terms of my preferred genres, here's my list in order of best to worst: RPG, Strategy, Simulation, Platformer, Puzzle, Shooter (I'm missing a few, I know.)-RPG: I like open-ended RPG's like Fallout, Skyrim (played both of them), I don't like those hardcore Final Fantasy-like turn-based RPG's.-Strategy: I love (LOVE) games like Civilization V, Age of Mythology, things that don't have a big difficulty curve, but have the room for being hardcore.-Simulation: When you think simulation, don't think Farming Simulator 2012, think more like SimCity. Games where you can set up everything and then watch what happens are fascinating to me...
- Platformer: Spelunky is probably one of my most played games ever, and when I think platformer, I think things like that.
-Puzzle: I like puzzle games that aren't like Bejeweled for something, but more like Portal, that dare to do something different, and do it well.
-Shooter: Anything open-ended and that allows you to get creative, but nothing really hardcore. I hate Call of Duty. So much.
-OTHER STUFF: Anything retro is fine, as long as none of the old elements in it make me cringe (I'm fine with old graphics and music, Mario is fine, but things like the blocky, horrible character models like in Deus Ex are unbearable for me, but don't let that narrow the selection down too much), in terms of consoles I have an Xbox and that's it, aside from everything that you can emulate on here. I prefer PC games, except that I have a laptop, and the maximum, I'd say would be Skyrim. I do, however, have access to a computer that can run higher-end games like Crysis, but that's only for two days a week, and you can't exactly get into a game like that.
TL;DR: It's been a while since I've found a game that I can really get into, and I need suggestions. Thanks a lot!
P.S: The whole gaming dry spell thing was mostly something to write about, but this thread is really mostly about the suggestions bit. Love you guys! Mwah! So, what's a gaming dry spell you may ask?
