I quite enjoyed it personally.

I feel like a hypocrite for liking this. I waste so much of my time every day when I could be doing something more productive. I also grew up with a basketball net, a couple of hockey nets, an ice hockey rink not far from my house, a pool and a hot tub and I've always had people nearby to play with. And now that I'm older I have my own laptop with internet speeds that would have made me crap my pants when I was little. I've never been in a position where I didn't know what to do with myself.

It is ridiculous how many people justify grafitie and general misbehaviour by saying theres nothing to do.

I looked it some of the advice and I thought it was ok.

While I liked the advice, I have to agree with warmaker... you don't really learn to socialize by mowing the lawn.

warmaker : cause you don't get enough time to socialize in school?

And the point is more to get people to give back rather than continue to expect more and more from someone else.

I agree that some recreation is needed and very useful but I think a lot of kids expect a lot and don't think they should have to give back at all.

geeogree : School is such a framed activity, with specific goals and achievements in mind, it doesn't allow for natural, normal social interaction.  Take "free play" for example where kids learn to do everything and anything.  Being in an area where you have options to do different activities with different people at any time is certainly different learning than being with a single lab partner for a chem class all semester when you're working on homework.

No, socialization at school is not at all like being in a social community with freedom of creativity and imagination.

This is rather inspiring advice.  Though I've never experienced any of the situations discussed within the article, I must say that I do disagree to an extent.  Where it says to go get a job and visit people, some parents are not very accepting to this Idea.  Many parents won't allow they children to do such things.  I know from experience because I have never been allowed to go to a friends house, nor do any kind of job.  I was not even allowed to mow the lawn until recently.  While this may be good advice towards those teens who are lazy and ungrateful, it isn't however distributive towards the ideal of parent approval.

True in principle. There are issues for teenagers today though that aren't all their fault.

Ha ha this is funny and true for the same reason. Now-a-days kids really think that the world owe them something. If you notice during the afternoon or evening time look out side. Do you see kids playing outside a lot? Maybe so but for the most part its just not like it use to be. I member I was sometimes kick out of my house and forced to go play outside so I don't become a couch potato or something. Now-a-days ppl rarely are active because everything is computers. So those words are real true hopefully some would look at it as a form of change.

While I agree with those "rules", I also agree with warmaker. School has some sort of social level but it's also not the BEST place to be socially interactive. Because of cliques and not everyone there will interact with you. I mean yeah you may have that as an adult too, but not as much. I hope I'm making sense here.

This is good.  I'm not really a teen that's all sad and bored, but when I do, I try helping the community and things like that.  I visit the nursing home when I have time.  Mostly on Wednesday.  I play checkers with a nice lady named Margaret.  We play checkers and she always beats me!  I like interacting with older people.  They're so wise, and they have lots of neat stories.  I love that article!

Well, I think teenagers really DO need to get themselves out here, shawnfawn, as you said.  I think it not only helps kids mature, but it also allows the older generation to see that not all kids are so bad.

I realized that all of my actions are not compatible or advisable to do for a 17 year old teenager . I learned that teenagers , children and even adults need to do what other people expected them to do as of their age . For teenagers , they should know how to help at home , like doing chores , helping their parents , studying and many more .. For kids ( 12 and below ) should study their lessons .. Kids are not required to do heavy chores such as washing clothes , washing vehicles ( cars , trucks and many more ) .. That's why they are called " KIDS " .. For adults ( maybe 20 and above )  should find a job , make a family , buy a coffin ( hahaha ) , take care with their child or children  and other .. For me , you should really do what others expect you to do .. ~ Lesson Of The Day
