Yup, I'm pretty pleased with myself.

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 X2 dual-core processors QL-62 2.0 GHz
3GB of DDR2 Ram (800MHz) - max of 8GB
Large 17-inch diagonal widescreen WXGA+ LCD display
Full sized 105 keyboard
Integrated DVD Super-Multi Double Layer Drive
ATI Radeonâ„¢ 3100 graphics (256MB dedicated, up to 1406MB shared)
Integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN, Wireless LAN 802.11b/g
Integrated VGA Web Camera

and I'm sure there is other stuff that I can't be bothered to copy and paste or type out. I'm pretty happy though. And Vista is not as bad as anyone had said. Sure it's chunkier than XP, but I think right now that's only because I don't know how to de-chunk Vista like I can dechunk XP. I'll figure it out soon enough. Oh, and technically this is my wife's laptop.... but we'll see how long that lasts

Wow, very nice laptop lol.

I also have windows vista premium 64-bit and I find it to be a very nice operating system. It has a few flaws here and there but that's nothing a service pack 2 can't fix, and those flaws aren't that bad anyway.

You tried out the dream scenes?

How much that laptop cost?

Dream scenes? No idea what that is.

$800 canadian. Pretty good price for a 17" laptop up here. The thing that sold me was the video card. The 256MB dedicated memory was what I was looking for. Most cards have 64MB dedicated and you can share around 1GB.... I'd rather save my ram for other things and share just enough to run the games etc I want to.

See if you can sneak in an extra gig of RAM on that thing.

And on the whole XP/Vista thing: I'm very very Pro-XP at the moment, though I'm interested in Windows 7.

But yeah, some extra RAM on that sucker and BAM, perfect.

yeah, I'm looking into it. I haven't been able to come across any 4GB sticks for a laptop yet. I'd love to have 6GB of ram in this machine. Cause then I wouldn't have to worry at all about the shared video memory.

Overall it's a great machine for the price I paid.

Not bad. Mine might be a bit better (specs in Gaming Laptop thread) but yours is definitely awesome. I remember hearing that AMD and ATI can have compatibility issues sometimes that makes the system run slow, so might want to watch out for that.

haven't had any problems with it so far. It runs so much better than my XP machine which is kind of sad but it is 2 years old now.

And it's not a gaming laptop.... it's actually my wife's laptop technically... not that she'll be the only one using it. I'm still not too worried about how well it'll do with gaming. The more I've used it the happier I'm becoming. And while I do understand to a degree why people reacted badly with Vista I'm honestly not too upset with it right now. It takes a little getting used to but it's really not too bad. I probably just need to get a real mouse for it instead of the touch pad. That's probably what's throwing me the most right now I bet.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with Vista either. I guess it is just personal preference. I know how you feel about the mouse part... the only time I really have needed has been when I was playing a video game on it, but it is moments like that when you really feel the difference. The full keyboard is really nice though, my old laptop didn't have that and I feel that having it there is just so much easier to deal with.

yeah, well that's a big reason I went with a 17 inch screen. I knew I was going to get a full keyboard... and it doesn't feel extremely cramped. I quite like it.

oh, and we bought a retractable mouse for $20. The cord wraps up with the push of a button so it stores easy. It's so much nicer to have a mouse now, though I find my hand goes to the keyboard first now when I'm using the laptop.

Cool Geeo. Nice laptop. I don't know much about 64-bit computers other than in Computer land, the higher the bit, the better the computer. Not many browsers have a 64-bit version though. If you're interested, IE8 is actually a fast, and secure browser.Seriously, i have hated on IE as long as i have had my laptop(8 months) and have said it was terrible. Well, IE8 isn't. And, it has a 64-bit version. Catching on?

All I know as far as 64-bit systems, is it's how it's built. 64-bit is more advanced, allowing much more Memory, while 32-bit systems only allow up to 4 GB's of memory.

Also, FireFox still wins in terms of security.
And I think FireFox works on both architectures anyways...

I thought that Firefox was safer. I thought that Firefox was the safest browser. But it turns out, that Firefox is a secure browser. It's just not the most secure. I'm shocked. Seriously.
