A 24-year-old man is accused of driving a shopping scooter while drunk inside the east Houma Wal-Mart, police say.

Thomas J. Phillip's breath tested at more than double the amount considered legal proof of intoxication under Louisiana law when he was pulled over Sunday, according to Houma Police.

Police said they received a call from someone at the store and found Phillip on the scooter pulling a friend behind him in a wheelchair. Phillip told officers he decided to take the scooter for a joyride.

Phillip, 325 Merrill Drive, was booked with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and with theft, police said. The wheelchair occupant was not cited. Phillip was in the Terrebonne Parish jail today in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

Really? Pulling over someone on a scooter inside of a store. And what moron CALLS THE POLICE ON SOMEONE PULLING SOMEBODY A SCOOTER? And what would...no, I'm not even gonna ask that one. "Alcohol's a hell of a drug" is what I'd get for an answer.

Lol at our wallmart in Hudson me and a friend ask the security guard if we could joyride the wheel chairs and he said YES! So my friend and I went around the store racing each other for a few hours! I bet in that town where this arrest happened we would of been arrested!

Well I guess it still counts as a DUI. Perhaps made even more serious by the fact that he was in a cramped area. You know you can get a DUI for all sorts of crazy stuff, like riding a horse whilst drunk. But yeah that's pretty stupid, and I'm sure the charges will be dropped pretty swiftly.

Also, as a WalMart associate myself, I can tell you that it is very annoying when people that don't need to use the handicap scooters decide to take it for a little 'joy ride' around the store. This is because, ninety-nine times out of one hundred, the joy rider will end up wrecking into a display and then run off, leaving us to clean up the mess. And, since this guy was drunk, I would be willing to bet that was bound to happen in this case as well.
