My cat had six kittens about a month ago. My fiance and I have found most of them homes, but we're having a problem with them. When they started eating real food naturally they started needing the litter box. Well I tried showing them what it's for by putting their little kitty poop in the box and scratching their feet around in the litter to show them they can dig in it. That didn't work. They started pooping in all corners of the room and under the desk and entertainment center in our bedroom. So we blocked off all corners of the room except the corner where their mama's food is with boxes and other things, and we stuffed things under the desk and entertainment center to keep them from going under them. That didn't work either. They're peeing on the boxes we set up and they're pooping in the corner where their mama eats.

I'm at my wits end here because we're wanting to keep 2 of these kittens and the rest of them have to go to homes. In the meantime, however. I have six kittens leaving their poop and pee all over my bedroom. It' easy to clean with a rag and some Resolve, but if we're going to keep 2 of these kittens they need to learn to use the litter box. Does anyone have any idea what I can do? Frankly, I've done everything I can think of.

If this needs to be moved by all means.

First off I know what you are going through. Every hour or so put the cat in the litter box. Get them used to sitting in there. If you see the mamma cat going in there bring the kittens over to watch. If they see mamma cat using it they will use it. I never had problems with kittens using the box as long as I had an older cat around. They will learn by mamma cat.

Until then keep them in one room with mamma cat if you can. Get a childrens gate to block off any entrances to other rooms. Do this until they get the idea to use the box.

Now this is going to get moved to cafe corner. Most pet talk is in there.

They also make a product that is like an attractant for kittens that you add to the litter that helps them adjust. There are some other helpful hints here.

You might want to consider treats for proper litter usage.

Elara : Do you know what this "attractant" is called and where I can get it? I have tried virtually everything else and one of my kittens still flat out refuses to use the litter box. If I can put that stuff in the litter maybe she will finally use the litter box.

XxChaosxX : The main one I know of is Precious Cat Ultra Litter Attractant, and they sell it in most of the big pet stores like PetSmart or PetCo, also on Amazon if you want to go that way. I've never needed it, but I have heard it can help when other stuff fails.
