I had to go back and forth on how to go about this... I'm only going to do the first round to prevent this being a board crashing post.

1. Anthony Davis - Hornets

I absolutely love this pick for the Hornets for several reasons. For one, it actually gives them a true shot blocking prescence. It's not a whole team, but when you are rebuilding there are far worse pieces to build around than an athletic shot blocker who can shoot from mid range. If he ever gets his 3 game rolling, he could easily slot in at small OR power forward, making for a matchups nightmare for the opposition.

2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - Bobcats

I'm honestly more surprised they didn't take Bradley Beal... he was so highly coveted that I felt they'd take more advantage of it... however, they did the right thing here... or the closest to it. If they could have gotten 2-3 first round picks for this pick, I would have done it. They are such a bad team that no one player is going to make them any better. But they did take someone I like. Kidd-Gilchrist is a project player. Most likely within the top 5 to bust I think, however, he's got a great sense of leadership and that will likely translate with his game in the NBA. He has the real chance to be a team leader, even if he really needs to work on his shooting game.

3. Bradley Beal - Wizards

The best pick they could have made. A lot of people want to compare him to Ray Allen, but I want to make a note that he's much more dynamic and athletic from my point of view. He's not as pure a shooter as Ray is, but with his athleticism, I don't think that'll be a problem. He'll probably have the most immediete impact on the team among the first five picks... but not in the way you think. His presence will spread the floor for John Wall to actually make the plays he needs to make. That could make Wall very scary in this go around.

4. Dion Waiters - Cavaliers

Raise your hand if you expected this pick... ok, put your hand down you filthy liar. This was a total surprise pick that I didn't get at first. I felt Thomas Robinson or Austin Rivers would have been a better pick at this stage... but in a way, this makes total sense to me now. Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters appear to have a very complimentary game, and on paper (how else?) this makes the team a lot more scary in the back court. They still need a dominant force inside, but that can always come in another year. The big question is how Waiters handles being one of the better shooters on a piss poor Cavaliers squad.

5. Thomas Robinson - Kings

I love this pick so very much for the Kings, who I already have pegged to make the playoffs next year. Yes, as soon as this pick was made, I slotted the Kings in as a low seed. Soon enough you will see why. His style of play looks like it will mesh will with the current Kings cast, and that is always worth a pickup. On top of that, he's got as much potential as any of the guys in this draft sans Austin Rivers and Anthony Davis.

6. Damian Lillard - Trailblazers

I feel bad for Blazers fans. This kid has bust written all over him... it's not his makeup, that's fine, but some players just aren't ready for the big time. His basketball knowledge is great, and he apparently stunned Portland enough to grab him early. He's one of the older players taken, which isn't bad, always love a kid smart enough to stay in school... but if he's going to succeed, the playbook is going to have to change.

7. Harrison Barnes - Warriors

This was the prime example of a team grabbing a player they wanted. Barnes slipped a little, which isn't a huge surprise, given his poor performance in the past year, raising concerns about his ability to perform in crunch time. However, this shouldn't be a HUGE problem, given his natural talent. The key to his well being is Stephen Curry. If Curry can regain the form he had two years ago, and Harrison can get into the right positions, and learn the motions, he'll be a very solid part of an average team in the Western Conference.

8. Terrence Ross - Raptors

Color me shocked. I seriously thought Andre Drummond would be picked... and he would have been the right pick for so many reasons. However, they played it safe and went with Ross. Don't forget last year's pick, Valuncinas (or however the hell it's spelled)... because these two will make an interesting rookie pair. It won't rival Davis-Rivers, but it'll be just as good as any other rookie twosome. (Seriously... why not Drummond? You can take a risk in the draft you know.)

9. Andre Drummond - Pistons

Don't sleep on this fast falling big man. He may have slipped... but keep in mind the operative word. Slipped. He's top 5 talent that fell to the later stages of the lottery due to injuries. He really should have been picked up by the Raptors or Blazers... but they'll find that out soon enough. No need to rain on them now.

10. Austin Rivers - Hornets

Be warned. This is my favorite pick of the entire draft. Remember what I said in the Anthony Davis comment about there being worse pieces to build around? This guy isn't one of them. He's probably an even more appealing piece to build around. Rivers can really do it all. He's athletic, he's got a great shot, and he has the pedigree. I (unlike 90% of draft analysts) don't throw this term out there much... but this guy is a total gamer. (one of the few times in this draft I can say that). He knows the score, he knows his role. Only question is how he and Davis will get along given both will compete for Rookie of the Year. That's a good problem to have.

11. Meyers Leonard - Trail Blazers

He's a big man, and Andre Drummond was off the board. (seriously... this confuses me) If they wanted a big man AND Lillard, they could have taken Drummond with their first pick, and Lillard would have fallen here... But whatever. Leonard is no where near as awesome as Drummond, but he'll be a nice role guy off the bench I feel.

12. Jeremy Lamb - Rockets

I don't like this pick if it doesn't net them Dwight Howard. They already have a guy like this... his name is Kevin Martin! Why do they need two of him? I get that more is more, but this pick should have gotten them something they needed, a big man! An absolutely stupid pick if they don't get Howard, and it's still a stupid pick then, since Howard doesn't even want to sign with them. Come on.

13. Kendall Marshall - Suns

The moment Kendall was drafted, I asked where Steve Nash had just been traded to. Turns out, my gut was right, as Nash was traded to the La Fakers (oops I mean Lakers). Suns fans will miss Nash, but they will get over it when they see Kendall Marshall has the ability to be very very good. (maybe not Nash level, but he was getting old anyway.) It sucks he doesn't have someone (like Nash) to properly help him transition to the NBA... but he's a smart kid, he'll figure it out.

14. John Henson - Bucks

This pick both is interesting and irritating to me. They have enough guys like Henson that they could have picked up a guard... not like many were available at this point. Whatever the case, he won't contribute right away, and it's ridiculous to expect him to. He has the potential to be great if he can ever find his shot and gain some weight, but he's one of those guys in the "Be patient" mold. He's not close to ready, nor will he be after training camps.

15. Maurice Harkless - 76ers

This is taking the best player available over need. And I love it. The 76ers are already a good enough team to make the playoffs, everything from this point should be about improving your team in any way possible. While they could have probably traded down and got a need player, I doubt they would have got much in the way of value, so this was a good call by the draft room to get a guy they wanted.

16. Royce White - Rockets

He won't ever be a star in the NBA, but that's not a bad thing when you consider he's been compared to players like Chris Webber and Boris Diaw, two players with very solid NBA careers. I think this was yet another step of Operation: Acquire Dwight Howard, but even if they can't work something out, Rockets fans won't complain about his natural feel for the game.

17. Tyler Zeller - Mavericks traded to Cavaliers

For the Mavericks? I wouldn't have liked this pick. But for the Cavaliers? A good job of trading up to get a guy you want (and need). He's got a lot of seasoning to go before he's really ready to transition to the NBA (strange sounding, I know, but he's missing something...). I think once he toughens up a bit, and grows a defensive game, you'll be hearing a lot more rumbling with his name.

18. Terrence Jones - Rockets

Out of all the picks the Rockets made, this is the one that made the most sense to me, and that's only because he is exactly what you want in a late first round pick. A risk. He could be as good as anybody not named Kobe, LeBron, or Insert Star name here, but he also has the easy alternative of being what Lamar Odom was for the Mavericks. Dead weight. If he's not traded, he'll probably come off the bench but grab significant minutes.

19. Andrew Nicholson - Magic

This is the first pick I didn't remember happening. And now I remember why. He didn't blow me away one way or the other. He looks pretty much done as a piece, he'll grow into the game mind you, but as far as draft picks go, this is very much a see what you get player. He won't dominate the game, but he won't be invisible either.

20. Evan Fournier - Nuggets

Why? He probably would have still been on the board in the second round... so they could have easily traded down. But I'll give the Nuggets props for getting the guy they wanted. In this draft, I guess it doesn't matter where you take most these guys, since it was such a weak crop overall. He's easily the best overseas guy on this board, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him spending a season over seas or in the D-League. If he plays this year, he'll back up Affalo nicely.

21. Jared Sullinger - Celtics

The savvy franchise made a great (savvy) pick. Shock. Effectively, he was a top 5, top 10 guy last year, but surprisingly didn't declare. That hurt his stock, as he falls all the way out of the lottery to the end of the first round. The C's got a regular steal if this guy stays healthy long enough to make an impact. Along with the return of Jeff Green, the Celtics have more than enough to compete despite their core having gotten older and older.

22. Fab Melo - Celtics

But they were not done, as they immedietly got the guy I knew they would the entire draft. Fab Melo. Think of a less offensive but more defensive KG. That's what they are going to get in Melo, who will benefit greatly from KG's tutelage. When I think of possible comparisons... two former Celtics come to mind. At the floor - Glen Davis. At his ceiling? Kendrick Perkins.

23. John Jenkins - Hawks

This could be the steal of the draft if he learns the offensive style of the NBA. He's an even better shooter than Bradley Beal. If Beal is Ray Allen, then this guy is Ray Allen Mk2. He's even more deadly from beyond the arc than Beal, and just as intelligent. The one thing he needs to work on is his physical athleticism, and his stamina.

24. Jared Cunningham - Cavaliers, traded to Mavericks

Remember, this deal happened because the Cavs traded for Zeller. This was not a mistake. Cunningham is a good player, and a nice prospect, but Zeller will mean much more in the short AND long term. Anyway, onto Cunningham. With the loss of Jason Terry, Cunningham will have the ability to start in Dallas... this is not a bad thing, as he has the athleticism to handle it.

25. Tony Wroten JR. - Grizzlies

Steal. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I think the Grizzlies may be one of the shrewdest drafters in recent memory. They tend to get the most of their picks, and draft pick trades. He has a lack of a shooting touch RIGHT NOW, but you can always learn how to shoot, especially when it's your job to shoot the ball. Once he gets the touch down, he'll be one of the more dangerous players in this draft.

26. Miles Plumlee - Pacers

Larry Bird. No, that's not the comparison. Larry Bird made this pick, AFTER quitting from his job. This was probably the worst pick of the first round. He probably would have gone undrafted honestly. Unfortunately for Pacers fans, this is not going to do much of anything for them...

27. Arnett Moultrie - Heat traded to 76ers

Let me start by saying... I was legitimately angry the Heat got this guy at first. Why? Because in Miami he would have gotten all kinds of chances to develop as a top level player, something he CAN be. Luckily for the NBA, the Heat moved him to the 76ers for basically nothing. Solid player as is, that will fit in well with the 76ers budding team.

28. Perry Jones - Thunder

Ugh. I wanted the Bulls to get this guy... Top five talent. I know I've said it before. But STEAL OF THE DRAFT. The fact the Thunder get this guy is almost unfair. Look at the team as is. Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Ibaka, Perkins. Add in Perry Jones, and you can easily trade Harden or Ibaka for the cap space they'll eventually need.

29. Marquis Teague - Bulls

At first, this pick irritated me. Simply because the guy I wanted the Bulls to take was literally JUST taken. But once anger subsided, I fell in love with this pick. This gives the Bulls a PG in Rose's stead. He won't be amazing, but he won't be bad either, and will keep them competitive next year. I don't think it's wrong to compare him to Jeff Teague, both are very similar... unsurprisingly.

30. Festus Ezeli - Warriors

Meh. I have nothing of note to say about him. He's basically just a backup center, and that's all he'll ever be.
I had to go back and forth on how to go about this... I'm only going to do the first round to prevent this being a board crashing post.

1. Anthony Davis - Hornets

I absolutely love this pick for the Hornets for several reasons. For one, it actually gives them a true shot blocking prescence.

He's basically just a backup center, and that's all he'll ever be.

legacyme3 : I have to say I'm quite impressed with ur insight on the NBA rookies drafted. I agree with you in almost every selection. For the Austin Rivers discussion, I feel that the hornets should focus around a big man, especially since they have free agents like Chris Kaman (I may be wrong because I haven't checked free agency in almost three days). Losing Kaman would result in a huge loss of big man offense and defense, which Anthony Davis can provide. Although I would agree with you when you say that Austin Rivers is a total gamer, at least offensively. He can do pretty much anything, from a drive to the lane to a pull up three, hes an offensive monster. He can be the building block for a monstrous backcourt, but he's definitely not the building block for the Hornets, although a right hand man to Anthony Davis I could also see.

Another thing, I'm a bit surprised that Andre Drummond was drafted by the Pistons rather than the Warriors. I know that the Postons should benefit but I really felt that the Blazers would've benefitted more, especially with the loss of Marcus Camby.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily trade Harden or Ibaka immediately. If I were the thunder, I'd see how he fits on the team first to see whether or not he fits in with the team, which I'm sure he will.

Finally, at this point, especially with Allen gone, the Celtics could use Sullinger. with him, you also have Pierce, Garnett, Green, maybe Bass, Bradley, Tondo, and now Terry. This Celtics team, if everyone accepts their role, could be Miami or Oklahoma City caliber. I think that Sullinger may have a sketchy rookie season though, especially when overshadowed by veteran players.

And lol at the Lillard joke. The Blazers definitely could've used Drummond, although I did expect him to go to Toronto or Detroit.

The only picks I have a problem with are the Rockets and the Kings. The Rockets didn't focus on their weak point, which is the post positions, drafting guys that basically can play the same positions and undersized at the post positions, it just seems crazy to me that they wouldn't at least draft a big man with a size instead of hoping to get Dwight. The Kings are just stacking up players that are 6'9" every year in the draft it seems like, and they have little to no impact on the team overall. They draft at the same positions every year and nothing has changed for them, they just need a whole new start there.

The New Orleans Hornets definitely had the best draft, because they had Number 1 and 10. Usually, when a team has No.1, they won't have the BEST draft, but it is guaranteed to be good (unless you are the Oakland Raiders in the NFL). Austin Rivers and Anthony Davis will be absolutely dynamic in their conference, and I can now see them slipping in as the 8 seed. I like the Celtics' draft the best, because they took players that will help them in the future, but also got a steal in Sullinger. Melo is good, but I see him more as a risk than Sullinger.

mr.keys : It is true that the addition of Ray Allen to the Miami Heat makes them stronger but I disagree that the lakers are the only team that can beat them. Btw, I'm a Celtics fan so I both hate the loss of Ray Allen and I'm not a fan of Kobe and the Lakers.

Being a Sixers fan, I am both confused and somewhat excited over the picks.

Moe Harkless: From watching his game at St. Johns, you can tell that this guy has great potential to become a baller. Athletic, tough defender, and with the capabilities of finishing at the rim on the fast break. This will work well with our offense as in Philly, the ball is always moving. Harkless has a decent stroke from outside but overall he still needs to go a long way to improve his jump shot. However, his shooting fundamentals aren't bad so I'm not too worried about this. My concerns are this: why do we need another slasher type wing player who has an underdeveloped shot? I mean we already have several guys on the roster who play a similar style: (Iguodala, Turner, Thad Young). Sixers GM (Rod Thorn) has said that they picked the best player still available at that point in the draft but this is up for debate. All in all, I hope he's given some quality minutes this year to develop and learn how to play Philly style.

Arnett Moultrie
Now this acquisition, I'm definitely excited about! Moultrie is a piece of the puzzle that we were desperately missing. At 6'11 and with a solid frame, Arnett is a presence on the post and has some good moves down there as well. He also lead the SEC in rebounding last season at just over 10 a game which was impressive. Something tells me that further down the line, the Heat may end up regretting not giving this dude a serious examination. But than again, they just won a championship so I don't think they will lose too much sleep, just yet.
