100% impossible last time I checked, unless we made a change in the Acmlm system. Delete post is a rather useless anyways, messes with the database.

Edit: Actually, if you made a personal copy then yes, but it's nowhere to be found in the board database anymore.

For those unfamiliar...

This board like most runs off a database. Now what this means is that your information is stored in various places. For example (I don't know how it's actually done but this is what I would do it if I was designing a DB) You start off with your user info, this includes user name, pass, profile stuff you filled in, and the all important user ID. This user ID is linked to posts you make, pms, and high scores and whatever else you add. Thus If you delete post number 303 from user 809, it's completely erased. User ID is the primary key an automatically assigned to you when you join depending on the order you joined in. This all makes loading faster for the boards because all messages are in a single table with a number that identifies who posted it and where it was posted.

Exactly as Vash said. It is impossible to recover a deleted post as it removed that entry from the database. If your lucky, maybe you have it cached in your history? If its cached, it wont load it from te board database, therefor you may still have it but as for us being able to restore it. Not going to happen.

Technically it's not impossible, from the server it's impossible but there is a website that saves some webpages on the internet and depending on how old that post is, it might have been cached by google or the internet wayback machine.

We could always add an extra flag to the post table of `deleted`, and then have it 0 by default, and on delete make it a 1. Threads only query posts with a 1 for `deleted`.

We should almost disable that option, I don't see why we would let ordinary users delete their posts anyway. We've already seen what some members in the past have done with that feature (chrish deleted every single post of his and was an active user which left a lot of threads sorta incomplete).

There's no confirmation, pressing delete deletes the post. I meant that pressing delete gives a pop-up saying something like "Do you really want to delete this post?" or similar. That would fix the problem, or well prevent it form happening again.

Ah, yeah. That makes sense. That would definitely make it pretty hard to delete on accident. I guess the "regular users can't delete their own" was just a bit of a side-track from the base of the topic at hand.
