Went to an asian market the other day. Got a picture of this. What alien planet did they come from, and who in their right mind would even try eating them?

No, not ginger. I forgot to mention that they resided in a large fish tank. They're aquatic aliens creatures.

Until you mentioned they resided in a large fish tank, I thought this was one of those little floor snakes, that you use to block drafts. Like a draft stopper!

But yeah... not quite sure what it could be.

Those are geoducks, AKA "gooey-ducks", which is a type of clam. Those large thick "tentacle" things coming out of their shells are called a siphon. All gastropods (snails), bivalves (clams and mussels), and cephalopods (octopi and squid) have this structure on their bodies, except they are usually much smaller. Essentially, water is sucked in an out of it, they use it for breathing, eating and in some cases moving around.

According to Wikipedia, they are one of the largest clams in the world. :o On the sticker it explains where they come from... The Pacific Northwest

After reading Annette's explanation, it makes it a bit less creepy, but that doesn't help much at all, Nya~.
I can't see how anyone would actually eat something like that on anything besides a dare...

For some reason I can't see a picture of what it is. Sounds like Annette is right though. Geoducks are strange but they can be very tasty if prepared well

Yep. "gooey-ducks". I knew what they were from reading the label on the tank, but I wanted to see everyone's opinion/reaction to them. Honestly, it was the first time I'd seen them. Apparently they reside underground and you have to dig your hand into the sand/dirt to pull em' out.

I agree with Annette's explanation. I have never heard of a geoduck, before.

That's it? I've never heard of Gooey-ducks, yet, I don't really want to know. Wow.

(Btw, the thread will not be closed. Its a discussion thread)

Meh. At first I thought they were a type of eel. Just with a slightly wider body and whatnot. I would have never guessed that they were a type of clam though

In an episode of Bizzare Foods  the host said these things are a delicacy. I can't remember the exact country he was in but I believe it was an Asian country.

Dude seriously, at first, when I saw this I was like "What the f$%# is this?!" but then I read Annette explanation, and now it doesn't look so wierd, this thing slightly looks like a generic potato or something.

My first thought? "Oh hey, I know the plant version of martian life too!!! "

Want to eat this thing for a snack? Grew one in a garden once. Looks weird, but it's totally edible. How do you like that for martian food!? >

pi0x :

EDIT: Wat. The pic changed...? Not even disappear, but be a totally different pic? NUUUU

From a first glimpse the larger picture looks like a bundle of decomposing body appendages.

From my logical perspective it appears to be a Yuca or some sort of vegetable that is grown from the Earth. Either or it looks unappetizing...I wouldn't touch it.
