Actually agree with orion 100% (except for the flaws thing. The farming thing is easily explained). My wife read the books, really liked them, and we rented sometime early after release. I was expecting gorefest galore based on her talking about the books (although she does exaggerate on that kind of stuff). But I thought it was actually very tame. I don't think it was the violence that got to so many ranters, but just the idea of seeing children killing children. I guess I get it, but the movie version really did make that very tame. The most brutal part was at the start of the game where everyone was battling for early supplies. But even those deaths were done very quick with intentional shaky camera movement. Most of those deaths were more implied things where you know what happened, but didn't physically see it. I really don't know what the fuss was about given so many other movies. I guess it is because this is a teen popular thing.

I've heard a lot of people talking about The Hunger Games being violent.

Here is what I think:

It's not that there is that much violence in the movie: there are about 10 people who die, and the camera cuts away when they do. Watch a star wars movie and you'll more killing.

What effects people is the fact that it's KIDS, and it feels very... real. It's taking gladiator fighting, which happened for real, and bringing it closer to home... with kids! It just feels wrong, and so people get turned off, or feel it is too violent.

But I'm here to say The Hunger Games' violence is "better" that most other movies. How so? It doesn't glorify it! Most other action movies are made so that the violence is COOL. When you finish watching the hunger games, you feel bad. You HATE the fact that kids had to kill each other, and that should be the human reaction to violence.

I think the movie has done exactly what is was suppose to, make us realize how terrible it is that humans can... and did... make people fight to the death for entertainment.

Um, no. Many people think that though. If parents want to keep their kids away from anything Hunger Games, they can, but I don't think that it is too violent as a whole. It is violent, but not THAT violent.

Of course The Hunger Games was violent but that's why it was rated PG-13, if the movie theatre is letting in underage kids without parents then that's their problem don't blame the movie for being seen by underagers. Personally, I loved the movie, I didn't understand it at all but then it went on Netflix and found it awesome.

I really like this movie, great way for me to connect with my little sis. We watch the Hunger Games, she nerds out about it and we have fun together. Good stuff. But, yeah. Considering the fact that the theme of it was mass murder anyway, I think it was remarkably tame in it's presentation. It was violent, had to be because that's the nature of their world, but they didn't use the violence gratuitously. It worked for the film.

I don't really think its that violent I mean atleast not as violent as they could have made it.
Of course the concept itself sounds very violent though pitting a bunch of kids in an all out fight to the death.

To be honest, I have never seen the movie. I really do not know if it is too violent, because I have only seen the trailer, and it did not seem too violent at all, just people sitting there.

Even though there is a lot of violence I think that it portrays humans very nicely.  It shows that we are violent in nature as well as how terrible human beings can actually be.  I think it has just the right amount of violence to portray that well.  With that aside, I do think it does have a good story when you look past the violence although the violence is of course part of the story.  I also believe that The Hunger Games was targeted more towards older readers when it was written.  I could be wrong however.

In my opinion, I personally think that it is too violent, the whole concept is a little bit violent because they are just kids killing each other for competition. So yes I think it is pretty violent and I think it would be different if it were adults competing to win, but it is just young children instead and I think that is part of the reason why it is violent.

MoblinGardens : I agree with you on that, it shows how barbaric and primitive humans can be and it portrays that through the violence. I read the books and I liked them, but I was not crazy about the movie and I don't think I will be seeing any more hunger games movies for a while. But I definitely shows the violent, barbaric ways of humans very well.

First... the 3rd post in this thread made me crack up laughing.

"It really isn't violent. It's just teens fighting to the death."  That's just hilarious. XD

Secondly, I was a little shocked when I saw this thread. The fact that anyone could even think Hunger Games was 'too violent' left me quite astonished.  'Violent' is probably one of THE last words I'd ever use to describe the movie.  (I haven't seen the second movie yet, so if I stand to be corrected, I apologize.)  As rcarter2 mentioned in his response to this thread, there really was no violence shown in the movie at all, and whenever a death occurred, it was very tastefully done.

To say that the big deal is due to the fact that the killing is done by teenagers.... why should that matter? Killing is killing, regardless.  Besides that, it's a fantasy set in a different time and place.  It's really no different than .... an apocalypse movie where people are expected to kill for survival...  (I'm not saying that apocalypse movies aren't violent, or that The Hunger Games is like an apocalypse movie.  I'm... trying to express that I think the killing shouldn't really be shocking, so much as expected and accepted as a part of the story..)

I didn't see the second one but I don't think I really wanted to after seeing the first one, I just think the whole concept is a little violent, as I have said before, it would be different if it was all adults, but these are just kids. I didn't like the first one at all. I have heard the second one was pretty good, but I still don't think I would go out and see it. That is just me though. I mean it wasn't a gory movie or anything,but...I dunno it just wasn't as I thought it would be, maybe it isn't violence, but something just seemed like it was missing.

I read the books though and I thought hey were great, but the movie was just a bit different than I anticipated in my opinion. Ah well.

I don't see any reason why it would be.. I really liked it a lot .. and I guess if some parents saw it I could understand somewhat their reasons for not approving it for their children but if I had children I wouldn't mind them watching it.

Even though it is PG - 13 I don't think that it has too much violence. It's an exciting movie if you truly understand it and if your not afraid of deaths or blood. The main character even said you son of a ***** near the end of the movie which was pretty strange for a PG 13 movie, don't you guys agree? But I enjoyed it a lot overall, it was exciting and one of the best movies I ever saw. I think teens are appropriate for this movie if they are mature enough which most of them are.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
