And for future reference, you can just type the person's name (case sensitive), and put a : ... or you can just click reply to post, if you are trying to talk to a person directly.

To sum this up the site can sometimes have errors when being updated or having too much server strain. David the owner keeps a close eye on everything and fixes the problems as soon as he can. If you run into glitches on the site it's best to wait it out for an hour or so.
