I thought it would be easier for new staff to have an instant message box, so that they can contact for help fast if they need to, and have it connected to a cell phone by text. It's just an idea.

the suggestion is interesting however I don't know if any of us WANT people to be able to message our cell phones. I know I wouldn't want to get messages from people. Imagine the abuse that could happen if people knew they had access to sending texts or some other sort of messages to the staff's phones....

Well I did use the chat bar as this IM box suggestion. If anyone needed me they could drop a line in my chat bar. It was faster than a PM inbox message. For instance with trouble in chat someone would buzz me on the chat bar and I would come in to help. If I rely on PM inbox they would have to wait for me to refresh the page even if I do.

There are a lot of staff members. I used to be staff and I can say I honestly wouldn't have wanted messages to be sent to my cell. 9 times out of 10 there is at least one mod online. If it's urgent, talk to the mod who is online. If not, just send a PM and wait patiently for a response. Sorry if that comes across as rude.

My point remains I don't want someone having my cell number or access to the ability to text it, without my consent. It's the type of thing that would make me want to QUIT staff, rather than continue to help it.

As it is now we get summoned to threads all the time and PM'd as well. If there is an emergency we can be emailed, which I can get on my phone. I think that is good enough
