In reality, this is actually another "Creepy Pasta." A creepy pasta is a story, made based on something believably scary (Like lavender town music) and warped into something more serious. And then they let the brain work on from that using the imagination (That is, the secret tone meant to make children feel depressed.)
The tale of the Lavender Town calamity is not actually a true story. However, the story to the creepy pasta is not an appropriate story to be explained on this forum, so unfortunately you'll have to go Google it yourself.

Don't be ashamed that you were fooled; this is one of the most successful stories that was actually believed for over a few months (Maybe even a year)

However, I cannot deny, that the Pokemon Blue/Red/White Lavender town music is indeed scary. I was too young to know scary when I played the game back when I was 4, however.

And yes, this music is in all 3 first generation Pokemon games. (Red, Blue, and Yellow.) It was also made to be less scary in later generations of the game that included Lavender Town.

Some more sensitive children may experience migraines nausea and may vomit.  That's why the whole creepy pasta was started, I'd like to point out as you age your hearing slowly but surely suppresses causing many people to miss higher notes. That's why adults and teens fail to hear the entire song, and thus are not freaked out as much. On the flip side as we all know children ( 3- 14) are EXTREMELY impressionable so if they hear something scary are watch a scary movie its going to stick with them so that's probably why your scared of the music. HOWEVER through much research I've been able to prove that you will not die, worst case you have  stomachache and a headache. If you do get the following just turn down the music and take a Advil or Tylenol.

The music that created headaches was only on the original Red and Green, from Japan, however, you could only hear it if you were using headphones. I think that it only happened to young kids, about 5-9 years old. I think that the death thing was a hoax, but I don't know for sure. Either way, the music is creepy.

Here's how I feel about this tune, if anyone cares. Awhile ago I actually ordered an original Japanese Green Cart with leftover birthday money. Eventually I got to Lavender Town and put my headphones into the GBA. The music was strange, definitely detectable that there was an abnormally high pitch. After listening for about 2 minutes, I had a very mild headache, but nothing bad. Being 13 at the time, I was about a year older than the children in Japan suspected to have had suicidal thoughts or performed suicidal actions. This may have to do with my ears perception of pitch being different due to age. I am 14 as of this writing, but I personally believe this may have caused headaches, nausea and dizziness in children, but I'm not quite sure about it causing them to mentally deteriorate.

I've heard that if u look at it with some special music wave detector, it will show you a picture of the ghost sprite and a bunch of unknown spelling escape, it makes no sense though, as unknown weren't  in the first generation.
