In my opinion, action and sci-fi can be somewhat good, depending on the series.
My favorites are romantic comedies and surreal animes.
Some good examples are Ouran High School Host Club and Paranoia Agent.
I like those two alot.

I'd never say this in person and I'd deny it vehemently if anyone ever called me out on it, I am in fact partial to more than a few shoujos and romantic comedies. Don't get me wrong! I grew up as an action lover (shonen soldier for life!), but these last couple of years, I've found myself enjoying a good love story more and more. I just love seeing the guy get the girl in the end. And all the issues and trials they face beforehand can really be inspiring. I've even found myself near tears on more than one occasion. Good Ending and Happy Project are two of my favorites right now.
