Yeah, I took a couple of tests, and I ended up with the results of me having ADD. It's believable to me because I was never one able to sit still anywhere for too long, and that went for even if I was comfortable. I heard it can also have an impact of behavior and whatnot, but it isn't an excuse, so I am going to try to be more focused and have less......derpy....... moments in the future.

Just saying, almost everyone has ADD. (at least it seems)

I have ADD.

Think about that for a second.

I have ADHD really bad, I might not get hyper but I can't sit still too long, I can't pay attention, and just about anything can distract me....It's really annoying.

Jake's right. Everyone has ADD in their own way. It's noticeable in some people more than others.

I think just about everyone has trouble focusing or paying attention to things that don't interest them.

My dad and my father are diagnosed with ADHD. I'm not technically, but I consider myself hyperactive.

Yes I agree with both of you. I should've added that I might have a bit more than others....

Yeah. Just about everyone has it. Psychiatrists these days just use it as an excuse to use their prescription pads. Everyone has trouble concentrating sometimes. some more so than others. I believe that I actually do have a problem. But I don;t need drugs to fix it.

dramabethie :

That's right. Drugs are never the answer in ADD/ADHD cases...

Everyone has these issues, honestly shouldn't be "fixed" with drugs and medicine. It's just a matter of whether a person even wants to pay attention.

I find most people who have ADD/ADHD CAN pay attention if they really want to. Most people are lazy though, and just decide to ignore it completely. :|

I personally think ADD/ADHD is the spawn of people who think "my kid won't sit still something is wrong." when really it's called kids will be kids and they just are naturally hyper. Maybe one out of a million cases are right. It is ADD or ADHD. But normally it is just a goofy kid being a goofy hyper kid and it's a misdiagnosis and they drug them up with some dope pill. I was diagnosed with ADD as a kid and given Ritalin back in the day. Recently, I have been looked at up and down and never even touched upon ADD as a problem. I didn't "grow out of it". I was misdiagnosed. As is many  children today. It's horrible. Whether or not you have it is a personal thing you and your doctor have to figure out and I hope your doctors not a quack for your sake.

I don't have ADD/ADHD but my sister does. Now we did not want her medicated for it. It did though get to a point where she would not sleep. She would dose off for ten minutes at most then wake up and she would never get real sleep. Her first doctor though she just had sleeping problems and give her natural sleep aids. None of it worked. My little sister's insurance changed and she had to get another doctor. This doctor diagnosed her with ADHD and gave her medicine to take a night. She sleeps now, does her chores, and gets herself ready for school.

Now the medicine doesn't help the personality issues, or calm her down during the day, but it helps her sleep and calm down enough to eat her meals which was another problem. We hope with her being able to sleep and eat she will learn how to behave with the right education. We have her going through First Step preschool and summer school. She will also have special ed when in kindergarten.

So I know what you are probably going through. To be honest I always try to through therapy and education before resorting to medication. I hope things smooth out for you and good luck on getting your life in order~

legacyme3 : I completely disagree with medication NEVER being the answer in these cases. Now, should about 90% of the people 'diagnosed' with it be on medications? Absolutely not. But being that severe ADD/ADHD is one of the things I work with at the mental health center, I know there really are kids who are unable to function without it. The true cases are the kids who honestly do not have a proper functioning filter in their somatosensory system. Normal peoples sensory neurons receptors pass on information of stimuli, but exclude or reduce information about stimuli deemed less important. Real ADD/ADHD people do not have that, so every set of stimuli is deemed important. So in their cases, it isn't that the can't pay attention. The problem is that their sensory system is paying attention to everything. In their class, the teacher might be saying something, and the kid's brain is focusing on that as well as the color of the books, the pictures on the posters, the letters on the board, the clock on the wall, the bug on the carpet, the breeze from the AC, the tapping of someones pencil, etc. Their brain sees all these things as important stimuli so it tries to focus on all of it, which is impossible to process. I have seen kids reduced to tears from such high amounts of stimuli being processed. For kids like that, medication that activates their stimulus filters are necessary. Now, like I said before, 90% of the kids who are on medication do not need it. That 90% just makes the rare 10% of kids who do need it look bad. But saying it is NEVER the answer is just not true.

I'm part of the 10% because when i'm on my meds I can focus on the important things, like a teacher teaching us Algebra. When I'm off it I notice every little thing around me and it's extremely hard to focus on just the teacher. I work way better with it because my grades went from 50s to 90s within the last 3 weeks of school this year. The reason, I didn't focus on everything around me or that was in my personal life as much as I did with what I was being taught. ADD/ADHD is not a joke, When I tell people I have it I have been called retarded or incapable of being smart. Kids and even adults who have ADD/ADHD are either treated like liars or babies who need help. And those of you who don't have it and say that it's misdiagnosed then you are completely wrong and making a generalization you have no right to.
