starwars293: Silent Hill is about a specific down with said name. But inhuman things go on here that no one sees except for a few select people who have become over emotional beyond belief, and by that I don't mean they're just crying over something stupid. All of the problems each person faces is dark, very dark. Whatever the crime the character has committed is pushed back and locked up in their minds, however, Silent Hill "calls" them to the town itself. Here and on going psychological and deadly situation unfolds which pushes each character to their limits until they can own up to what they've done. Their reward: Get out alive, once in town every way out ceases to exist, and none of it is a dream.
During the game there are "two worlds", our normal reality which becomes heavy with fog and filled with lurking monsters which is named "Fog World" and then we have the "Otherworld" which is the twisted, gore filled, and challenging dimension which Silent Hill is showing its true nature. All of this happens due to a slight religious belief, I won't go into too much because that would spoil quite a bit.
Anyways, as the game goes on you will end up switching between the two worlds and each boss is found within the "Otherworld". Silent Hill has very challenging and cryptic clues and puzzles that also get you involved with the environment every now again but completing them feels rewarding because of their difficulty.
No one monster in any of the games are carried over, each game has its own set of unique monster because every monster represents something to the various characters.
The story to Silent Hill is quite frankly one of the best out there for horror games. The quality for these games does not falter one bit for me. The game does allow you to fight these monsters but it is not recommended, only the bosses though.
Some of the old voice acting is pretty good, but since the release of the Silent Hill HD Collection by Konami, which contains the option to go between new or old voice actors, I've found myself going more towards the newer voices because to me they fit more than the older ones.
Silent Hill does contain some jump scares but it toys with you because you never know what is coming next. The monsters all have unique designs to represent a persons sins which can make them quite horrific when enclosed in a tight space and also the more deadly. But one of the most unique things about the game is the endings. It has multiple endings depending on what you decide to do through the game, and not everything you do is by choice, sometimes things are done and go unnoticed which give the games high replay value to see which ending you get and to see if you can get a different one.
All in all, Silent Hill has some things that are similar to Resident Evil but there are many things that separate them. No one protagonist is inhuman or anything of the sort. They are all human beings without any special military training (except in Silent Hill: Homecoming) and they don't start with any weapons or anything off the bat. You do play a tad bit detective with the puzzles like you would sometimes in Resident Evil, but behind it all, there really isn't a main antagonist to Silent Hill like there is for Resident Evil. But to me I think Silent Hill messes with you more psychologically than Resident Evil does. The best way to really know is to see if you can get at least one game and try it for yourself, not one game holds too much from previous ones so you can get into it without having to play any of the previous ones. I personally suggest Silent Hill 2 and 3.
I hope that helps answer your question in some ways, if you have any more questions at all feel free to message me and I'll answer to the best of my ability. I would also like to apologize for the spam posting, I just like to thank people for voting and telling me what they think
