The PS4 is in development, you know it, I know it.  Another thing we both know is the project is top secret and Sony are playing their cards very close.  Because of this, many rumours have spread the internet, causing arguments, excitement and encouraging everyone’s inner thoughts as to believe these rumours or not.  



Let’s take a look at the most popular rumours which are floating around and examine them one at a time.  Keep in mind what I’m about to write is purely my own logical response to what are merely rumours flying through the internet and are not expressing the view of Vizzed.com in any way shape or form.  

Hypothetically, the title of this new project is “Orbis”
Much like the Vita project was titled NGP (Next Generation Portable) and the WII originally called Project Café, rumours are spreading that the Sony’s next console is being called Orbis.  

Possibility of reality: 4/10

Who does this affect and how?
This really would only effect Sony themselves on a marketing basis.  They have a very reputable name which almost every dog and their owner know very well, whilst they would raise a few eyebrows and force a lot of curiosity as to why, this would not be worth the possibility of losing their classic title.  I believe they will stick to the title which everyone’s expecting, the PS4.  



Sony plans to release its new console before Microsoft
With Sony losing a lot of fans and customers as they dragged their release date around last time, are Sony really trying to battle the Xbox 720 to the finish line?

Possibility of reality: 5/10

Who does this affect and how?
New shiny technology is the name, Microsoft and Sony have the game.  The next generation of technology will with no doubt bring an unseen level of realism and prettiness, now there are people out their just waiting purely for that and whoever puts the console out first will win these fans because to the untrained eye there will be no difference in the PS4 and Xbox 720 as far as graphics and realism go.  
On the other hand, no matter who puts their console out first, the WII will be released way before it with its new tablet style controls.  Sony and Microsoft would be waiting patiently to see what they have to compete with in ways of motion controlling, with the main contender expected to be Microsoft with their Kinect system.  



Sony plans to incorporate Move-like motions in their standard controllers
As just mentioned the new Wii-U will be out shortly with their new tablet style controllers included as standard, the possibility of Sony including move/motion controls into their standard controllers would be quite likely, as well as a wise decision.  

Possibility of reality: 7/10

Who does this affect and how?
This could go both ways for Sony, it all comes down to the expectations of fan’s, are they expecting them to compete with Nintendo? or are they just expecting mind-blowing graphics with less emphasis on motion control?    Ultimately they don’t have to include motion-based controllers as standard, but rather offer it as an extra purchase.  

Sony plans to block used/second hand games
Whether this be an act against piracy or a marketing strategy, this is a very serious rumour that is cause much commotion.  

Possibility of reality: 4/10

Who does this affect and how?
This would most definitely affect the entire gaming community and give Microsoft that golden ticket to winning the next-gen console war.  For decades the gaming community have been selling and trading their game’s, it is a system that has brought gamers together and given them a more economical way of play.  If Sony does go through with this, Microsoft could simply support used game trade and more than likely steal a huge chunk of Sony’s fan base.  Sure Sony will be one step ahead in regards to anti-piracy, but would it be truly worth it?  No.  

The console will be disc-free
Another serious rumour, one feared by offline gamers the most.  Instead of physical copies of games (game discs) it is rumoured Sony may opt for purely digital copies of games via download.  This is a tough one to bring to reality, given the humungous file size of most modern games.  Unless Sony teams up with internet providers to provide fast, bandwidth free (and dare I say unmetered) internet to all major countries.  

Possibility of reality: 3/10

Who does this affect and how?
This one is interesting, given my explanation of the rumour’s possibilities.  If there is no internet support offered to players to assist in the large download’s, there is a slim chance of this happening.  For all of the gamers who opt to play offline, this would be an absolute tragedy. 



Rumoured not to be backwards compatible
This is something were all familiar with in regards to Sony.  Cutting development costs to only provide media compatibility with next-gen games is no surprise.  

Possibility of reality: 8/10

Who does this affect and how?
Apart from making gamers just a little disappointed, this won’t affect many.  What a lot of gamer’s (including myself) still don’t understand is why wouldn’t they just put their price a little higher and offer complete backwards compatibility with all previous Sony titles, all the way from Playstation 1.  

So there you have it, my analysis of the most common rumours flying through the internet in regards to Sony’s next Playstation.  What should you expect?  Nothing, the more you get your hopes up, the worse you may be let down.  These are called rumours for a reason and until I hear news straight from an official Sony press release, I wont believe anything.

Yeah no.

If this happens, I am not buying a PS4. I'm not wasting money on something with forced motion control. If I want to be active, I'll go outside and run.

Keep movement out of my games, and games out of my movement.

That said, all those concepts look horrid. The first one is the only one I'd be even somewhat interested in. It took me a while to figure out where the start button on the controller was. And I don't even know if any of those buttons really IS a start button.

I see a controller, home, and music button... where are the R/L 1/2 buttons?

I cannot wait until the PS4 and the XBox720! I also PC game and consoles aren't as powerful but the have exclusives that you can't get on PC so that's why I I'm really excited for these consoles!

Given ps3 has sixaxis and pseye since release, its safe to say ps4 will expand on it.
Like ps3, its also safe to say, this will be optional to use.
As for backword compatibility, when ps3 was jailbreaked people activated backword compatability. On the original ps3, it had backward compatability,on the slim it was deactivated, i really dont know why...
It definitely wont be called orbis and im almost certain xbox will rush to be first and screw up, again. In which case il again opt for sony.
My thought is, will online still be free?

thenumberone : Full backwards compatibility with the PS4 would be awesome, it would be 4 consoles in one.  Officially there was a 60GB PS3 series brought out, these were limited edition and silver.  Other big PS3's can be downgraded to firmware 2.5 via service mode and with the change of a couple of settings, they can be backwards compatible to an extent. 

Wait, they're making the PS4 now? I thought they wouldn't make it until another 5 years.

I still do not believe in the development of the PS4. It would be absolutely pointless right now. PS3 has not been around long enough for it to be financially logical to begin development. They are still making new PS3 feature developments, which shows they are utilizing the current top of the line console tech they can think of at the moment. All they would be able to put on a new console right now is the stuff they currently doing for the PS3, which makes no sense. Also, all but one of these pictures have been revealed as fake as they were made before the announcement than no PS4 developments were being made. Most of these pictures are from sites like PS4forum or other forum/rumor sites. I won't believe a lick of it until it is officially announced by Sony. This just happens too much. A couple years after the Wii, there were 'leaks' of Wii 2. There are still rumors of 'leaks' of Dreamcast 2 when Sega has announced they are out of the console business. I saw pictures of the Xbox 720 and it's controller less than a year after the 360 came out, and they are still used as 'evidence' of development. Gaming 'leaks' are rubbish 99.9% of the time.

Solid article. I never bought a PS3, and now I feel like I have to hold out for the PS4.

Hopefully the no-disc rumor holds no truth (Sony would be stupid to do that). Though it'd be nice to not have to switch discs to switch games, I can't see it happening. Something like a multidisc holder would be nice. That way you could keep 5 or so games in the Playstation, and switch between them without having to eject any.

Looks like not much fun. I'm not a big fan of PlayStation. Why would they release a PS4 when a lot of people already have the PS3 and the Psvita? Why can't they come out with a better name?

The PS4, by looking at all the specifications and details I can definitely say it's triumphing over all consoles this year. It looks so slick and the way it's cut in shape is magnificent. I'm definitely swapping from Microsoft to Sony this year.

That is the most awesome game I have ever in my entire life time seen. It looks so fun, and addictive. It looks like it will have you on if for weeks just playing from different selections of games you get. This would be really great for people who play games all day anyways. It seems really fun, and the best game system that will be out.
