I'm gonna go with 3D here because 2D has really been going downhill in the past few years whereas 3D has been getting better. Just because it's2D doesn't automatically make it just like the awesome genesis classics, most 2D games these days aside from Sonic Advance 1 lack Classic mechanics such as level design and physics. Sonic 4 is especially guilty of this which is sad.
