Well my little sister went through many tests to see what needs to be worked on before she goes to Kindergarten. It turns out she is ADD. Today was her first day on the medication for ADD. Let me just say I never thought she could be such a perfect little angle!

She was able to complete tasks. Like when we wanted her to give the money to the waitress she did that and brought back the change. Two days ago she couldn't even slow down enough to comprehend the task that was asked of her. Also today she sat through an hour long lunch without getting up and running around the table. Now she didn't zombie sit there she did do drawing and talked to the family. Never have I seen her this focused and calm!

I always thought that when a kid was put on ADD meds they turned into zombies. Thats what I saw on the news at least. My little sister is no zombie, she is a well behaved child now. She even cleaned up after her spills and used all of her manners. She would cough in her elbow (usually she doesn't do that...), wipe her face with a napkin (usually she uses her shirt), and even said excuse me when she burped!

I don't know, it just doesn't seem right to me to put someone so young on mind-altering medication. Children are supposed to be hyper and bouncy and off-the-hook. Clearly, this is silly of me, because the doctors know what they're doing, they're highly trained professionals, but it does make me wonder...

Lazlo Falconi : Well we felt the same way about her being on medication at such an early age. It came to the point though she could not even calm down to do a simple task as to eat. She couldn't even calm down to sleep. She would get like one hour of sleep a night and would only eat one meal a day.

Yesterday she was able to sit at the table for each meal and eat. I heard she also slept through the night last night! That is the first time in her whole life she has done that!

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was around 6, and the only medicine I've ever been on that ever put me out of it was Adderall. I only took that for a month though, and I've been fine with everything else. Most people I know with ADD/ADHD are totally normal on their medications. Once again, the media has just made everyone think the wrong thing. I'm glad the medication is helping your sister though. Food is the one thing I've never been distracted from, and I can't even imagine it.

Well it is a known fact that younger kids are hyper and full of energy, but putting a young child on some mind-altering medication? Kind of unusual....But if it helps, then go for it...

Hm... I do believe that a lot of people have it. More than you realize, and the way I see it, everybody is diagnosed with some kind of disease(s). There really isn't helping it. It's just one of those things that happens. I may have it too by the way, it usually affects my sleeping.

I would recommend omega 3 fish oils for your sister as well, as it is a natural supplement which seems to help with most mental illnesses. I take it for my OCD as well and have noticed improvements both in intrusive thoughts and my memory. It also has many other benefits which you can find through a search on Google. Best of fortune to your family.
