I don't think I plan on transfering to any other board since I will be paying/working with someone to develop a completely new system (probably based on acmlm). And I will of course keep all the current posts, threads, users, etc - otherwise a tranfer/upgrade wouldn't be worth it.

I might also think about having the new forum done with asp.net in c#. Why? Well there's a lot of cool functionality and most boards use PHP so this might help prevent some possible hackers (for a few reasons, 1 being that aspx is more secure and 2 that more people know php so therefore more people know how to hack it). Additionally, with a windows server and using microsoft technology, we can use some innovative stuff like AJAX and what AJAX does is that it allows you to specify only certain parts of a page to reload. So for example, if you wanted to reply to a post, a new reply box would pop open without having to load a new page and you could repond with that box and submit and your new message would be added to the page without loading the page - would make load times way faster and would make posting very smooth. Also we would be able to implement more functionality to posting, for example, if the user highlighted text in their reply box and clicked to bold it, it would actually appear as bolded (so it's a what you see is what you get kind of editor when replying). Just some of the possibilities with .net.

ASP.net in C# ?

C# is great! Except the fact it can be decompiled and full source obtained...

Any hack via PHP isnt a hack, its just a loophole the programer didnt fix. You just have to make sure its secure. Make sure you parse data, ect ect.

Vash, counter strike source?

David, what I was saying in my other post, it dosnt matter what language you write it in, if the coder leaves a loophole, hackers can use that.

Most hacks arnt server language spacific, but just injecting stuff into GET and POST forms, which manipulate database calls.

Very good info BigBob! If someone knows PHP well enough and they know programming well enough it won't matter what language it is in they know how programming works and can easily attack at any given hole that is left open. Sure PHP is widely known and used but then again the hardcore hackors are probably using more advanced languages such as C# and such. But as BigBob has said, it's the simple things that really hurt you the most such as the GET and POST forms.

Speaking of XNA studio, I'm considering developing a game for the XBox live arcade sometime next year, something you'd be interested in helping out with? I'd probably have a pretty big budget at the time so I'd hire a few people to help out.

I don't have a PS3 yet and it's so much easier to develop for the Xbox 360, not to mention more people own one.

It's coming along nicely now.

http://vgchartz.com/

Keep in mind that 360 has a year on PS3.

In fact:

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 03rd Nov 2007 to 13th Dec 2008 :

Console PS3 X360
Total 12,605,881 12,555,794
=PS3&cons[]=X360®[]=Total&start=39390&end=39796]Source
The site gives decent ballpark numbers.

Well with Xbox 360 dropping their price to $200 and the PS3 remaining at $400, that means the Xbox 360 is half the price as the PS3 which also sorta tells me that more people are likely to buy an Xbox 360 due to it being way more affordable and due to the fact that not a lot of people have a whole lot of money, the PS3 is probably out of the question for most.

Also vash, according to that chart, last week the PS3 sold 202,830 units worldwide, xbox360 sold 339,852.

That's pretty close to double the sales. Don't get me wrong, I want a PS3 but I just wouldn't be willing to invest into it and not to mention microsoft makes it easier to develop and publish games on the xbox 360.

Weekly sales are not what I'm looking at. Look at this past year. They are even as I put in my post. If you change the page I linked to that you will get the number in my post. I was hoping it'd keep the page the way I had it but it didn't. If you put the first week of Nov 2007 til the current week you'll see 360 and PS3 are neck and neck PS3 about 50,000 ahead in the sites estimation. The whole point of my post was to disprove the whole PS3 isn't selling thing, because the fact of the matter is now it's doing fine.

Also 2 things, 1 360 is still $300, people can say all they want that it's $200, but the fact is you need a hdd to save and download games to it, so therefore if you get the $200 version you need to buy stuff. Another thing to consider is if you want to use Wifi that's an extra $100 for the adapter. Then add online for $60 a year.

Consider also that PS3 plays Blu-Rays and the cost between the two becomes quite a bit closer, in fact to me the PS3 wins out in value. Also rumors persist that a price drop will be seen in March, so time will tell on that. Also stores often seem to have good deals on PS3. I know for a long time during the summer there was a buy a PS3 get a $100 gift card thing, but it doesn't seem to be going on anymore.

Oh and let's not forget about a little red ring.....

Also from all I've heard, video game sales aren't usually affected as much as some things by the economy.

Either way... Wii is dominating both in console and handheld world... someones gotta give up sometime... Sony's future does not look that good might even turn out like Sega did when Sony ran them out of business during the fued they had a bit back.
