Sorry, I don't know how to help. I've tried doing it many times on Virtual Console, I haven't seen if I can do it on Vizzed yet. With the occasional lag my PC controller gives me, I doubt it's any easier. I suggest pressing Z+A really fast in midair.

I have never managed to pull it off using my keyboard (roms, RGR, etc.), but in the actual game I have on my N64, it can be done quite effectively.

Backward Long Jump:
Run and press A + Z, then releases A but not Z. When Mario lands, press A, but keep Z held the entire time.When he lands again, press A and pull the Analog-stick back. Mario should move slightly backwards. When he lands again, press A and pull the Analog-stick Back. He will jump straight back.
