I don't know why, but I love the triple red shells. I can never get the spiky blue shell, and because the star doesn't last very long, I am going ot go with the Triple Red Shells. However... The Golden Mushroom is a close 2nd.

My favorite item is a red shell.

No matter how many I get, I always breathe a sigh of relief when I get one. Especially after I keep getting useless bananas, or green shells. I think to myself "Yes! Now you all die!" And what more? They're never considered unfair. Unless you get hit by one yourself. If I can get triple, all the better.

My favorite is the triple red shell to use as either a shield or to smash 3 karts.  But the Blue Shell is good when you use game shark that way you can mess around and even hit yourself and fly crazy.  But blue shells can be bested is it passes you by ghost or destroyed by wall or star.  But by wall really takes luck and timing to pull it off.

Mine would be the star because of the boost and temporary invincibility, the ghost because it can protect you from harm and you can steal items and the lightning bolt because I like to shrink the racers. The blue shell is great to when you need to knock out the first racer.

My favorite item is the fake item box because if you place it can easily fool anyone almost. Especially if you place it in between a row of real item boxes, or on the end of a ramp that is mandatory to a race because that makes it next to impossible for an opponent to avoid getting hit by it.
