So, I was listening to the radio, and this announcer guy states the following.
"Coming up next on the Golden Oldies, Metallica!"  I about died on the spot.  When did my childhood music, not even two decades old, become GOLDEN OLDIES!?!? I could see music from the fifties, or the sixties, maybe, being "Golden Oldies" But I'm not that old and the radio made me feel like an old coot that moment. What do you people think? Does music from the 90's and the 80's belong in the "classical" section already? Or is it a little too early? Tell Manic all about it.

I've noticed such trends myself and it is disturbing. Of course, I am sure the previous generation felt the same way when the 70s songs started to hit the oldies stations. I still think that "golden oldies" itself should be a specific genre of 40s-60s pop music because it had such a distinctive sound though... and that would mean that Metallica should totally not be there.

I would say that no band currently active should be considered "oldies"... but then again, the Beach Boys still have concerts (in defiance of all logic, and I say this as a fan).

I would never think of Metallica as being "oldies". That just doesn't sound right...
When I think of oldies music, I think of anything from maybe the late 30's-early 40's to the early 60's. Metallica doesn't belong in that category, and never should.

They should invent a new "genre" called classic metal(If it doesn't already exist). Now that would make a little more sense.

I wonder if people will ever call Skrillex oldies... I just couldn't see it, but then again I would never have thought that of Metallica either.

That does sound strange but time flies or maybe it's kinda like jethro tull won best heavy metal song over metallica on Mtv awards. Jethro flute playing tull isn't even heavy especially compared to metallica. You might can look this up.
