Maybe you should play Clock Tower is an old series no one really knows about .The characters are mostly women that are very defenseless they can't fight the killer but they have to run away from him .The Female have to run away and hide from the killer it's awesome there one on the Snes and ps1 1 and 2 then they have one on the ps2 Clocktower 3 which is made by capcom.

F.E.A.R is a good horror fps, so is System Shock 1 and 2 (although they are a bit old)... DOOM 3 is ok aswell.

Everyone who has posted so far has pretty much named off all the great horror games. However, I do have one in mind that hasn't been mentioned yet. Its a post-apocalyptic fps called Metro 2033. It is kind of old but the story is good, the challenge is pretty good, and its an interesting game all around. 

Now the reason for its horror is because of the mutated monsters you come across but also because you will spend the majority of your time traveling through a large spider web of metro tunnels that can be completely dark. It can be easy for enemies to hit you out of nowhere even though you may hear them and think they are really far away (but of course a tunnel makes sound echo quite a bit). I personally loved this game and if you try it, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. I plan to buy it sometime, from what I've heard its a legendary gamecube psychological horror game. You should really check it out. It plays tricks on you, like turning down the volume on your tv or pretending your save file is corrupt. Another is MANHUNT. Manhunt is my favorite series. It's a stealth oriented third person action game. I've beaten both 1 and 2, I'd recommend you start with 1. Really, these games are fantastic. Very mature storyline though, lots of violence. If you like that stuff as much as I do I'd check it out.

taterii : I played those quite recently manhunt seems more of a senseless killing and stealth game and eternal darkness gave me questions, like a lot of the times I didn't know what to do yet it was a great horror game  yet again I wasn't scared I miss horror being scary not just gory sorry for my ramble

If you have a DS I'd definitely suggest Dementium. I only played a very little bit but it was creepy and I've only heard good things about it.

For the PC, the only thing that hasn't been suggested is Nightmare House 2, which is a mod for Half-Life 2.

Those are my suggestions. But would you recommend playing Amnesia. I think I'm gonna get the Humble Indie Bundle within the next couple of days and that game comes in it. You probably won't influence me one way or the other, but at least I can have an idea of whether or not I should expect to like it.
