I like quite a few items from Mariokart, them being the Mario star because it boosts speed and damages nearby drivers, the three red shells because of it's dead on perfect accuracy, and the lightning box because it shrinks the other drivers and it's funny running them over!

I really love the lightning power up. Its so much fun to run over a mini-Bowser, or a mini-Peach and how slow they go.
The comedy effect is what gets its vote from me, even though it isn't really all THAT useful in an actual game. Even if it does slow the other races down by a lot.

I like the 3 red shells because its cool hitting anyone in front of you with them XD I absolutely hate the Lighting and Spiny shell because those are the two power ups that screw me over the most when I'm in first place and others use against me =P

I gotta go with the general consensus on three red shells. A perfectly protected little bubble of righteousness, and god help anybody who gets in front of me. It's especially nice when you get it and then zoom right into first place. Haha, try me!

For me, it really depends on which Mario Kart game you are talking about. If you are talking about the original Super Nintendo Mario Kart, definitely the Lightning Bolt. That item is king in that version. Now, if you are talking about Mario Kart Wii, for example, I have 3 favorites. First would be the Bullet Bill. Even though you only get it when you are in a very low place, it can put you right up in the top half or even close to the first place spot if used at the right time. I also like the spinning red turtles for obvious reasons. But I also love the 3 banana peel trail. That pretty much assures that any red or green turtles being thrown at you are of no danger to you. That and you can grab another item while they are acting as a projectile defense.

I have only played Mario Kart 64, and Mario Kart Double Dash, both equally fun and entertaining games with good replay value. It's the banana for me it's difficult to notice it on track when you're driving 150cc when their's too much action going on .You can place them pretty well after  a high-jump.They'll land directing towards it
