Okay, mass speculation time!  Based on these articles(http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/mysterious-planet-sized-object-spotted-near-mercury-154443870.html    http://www.thetechherald.com/articles/Astronomers-discover-potentially-life-sustaining-planet)  How likely is it that there's intelligent life on other planets?  Also, what risk do we have at being invaded?  Note:  This is not to be a debate, just post your speculations here.

How likely is it there is intelligent life out there?  I think the odds are so astronomical that there is life there is no way we're alone in the universe.  There are billions of starts with billions x billions planets, some of which can sustain life.  I bet there are a million other species looking up at the sky, looking right at us and wondering the same things we wonder.

I like to quote Douglas Adams in regards to being invaded.  Earth is in the unfashionable part of the universe and no one is interested in our backwater little world.

Based on those two articles? Very slim. They're both just rubbish, especially that Mercury one. However, go outside and look up some night. look at all those stars! Have you seen the Hubble Deep Field? Each one of those specs of light is a galaxy with hundreds of thousands of stars! And that's just a very small portion of the universe! With all that space out there, there is bound to be life somewhere. Certainly even in our own galaxy!

Now, what risk do we have of being invaded? None. Just look at the vast distances we're talking about. The nearest star to the Earth is over 4 light years away. And it is known to harbor no life as we know it. And besides, shooting between stars at such distances is sort of like searching for a needle in a haystack, except that instead of your hands, you need to use a bullet, and also you can't aim. It's a nice thought, but I doubt we will ever meet an actual intelligent alien race, unless you count the dolphins, which might as well come from another world all together.

The universe is really frickin huge. I'm pretty sure there's other life out there.

AS for being invade, eh, I'm not sure. What would they want with us in the first place. I don't think we're very interesting if these aliens end up having super advanced technology like we think they do.

We already had alien invasions just look at history not to mention all the testimonials and such by all kinds of people. Plus they updated firefighter guide to disaster control to include UFO's

If we ever get attacked by aliens our government will blame it on iraq or just call them weather balloons. The most important thing in the universe is not technology, its life. Try traveling in space with an advanced space ship you will realize finding other life forms is probably the most exciting thing that can be done out there.

We are not alone in the universe.  There has to be many planets out there with life on them.

Now being invaded there is a slim chance.  You never know if there is a life form far more intelligent than us.  They could find a way to create wormholes that can bring them to different places around the universe faster than normal space travel.  There can be many ways to get around than just flights.  We have only began skimming the top of space exploration who knows what other ways you can take to explore space.
