Note: this poem is more of my recent of many; so I'm going to do the backward thing, and post the more 'up-do-date' first, then the old stuff - a sort of reflect, speculate and compare thing. However, back to the poem!

Trembling, the moment between us held too tight for your lungs,
You whimpered, crying hard... harder, begging me not to do this,
tears of salt, warm and soft, sailing down your flushed cheeks,
my name, the sound of fire, the syllables of darkness and light,
like a misguided ghost, a broken promise.

You loved me 
deeply and amazingly; crumbled under the pain
that was my own; it's vengeful ferocity ready to pounce.
But it was me, much larger than life: beautiful, as you called me.

You promised you'd sing, painfully with honest grace,
and so, you sang. Your voice held each note as if
each one had my name on it, you'd stammer and choke
on the tears that seeped, desperate to stop the chaos taking over me

as I took my final breath. So you sang "I'll follow you into the dark", twice
a breath withheld, steady, fragile, longing to save me.

Oh wow, that's really impactful. Actually, it reminds me of those tragic RPGs where the main character dies at the end. =(
