But they have the technology there TO make games on blueray. Push 360 graphics further maybe.. Not sure what developers think about the 360 specs.

That's no different than the early Blu-Ray players. If you get an older model of a Blu-Ray player, it will not play newer Blu-Ray movies. To watch newer Blu-Ray movies you need a newer Blu-Ray player.
And microsoft could offer a way for people with Xbox 360 model's that don't have blu-ray to buy an attachment for their XBo 360 so that they do play Blu-Ray. N64 also did something like this with it's expansion pack, with some games not working on an ordinary N64 without the expansion pack upgrade, so this sort of thing isn't unheard of.

Well for a better example. Sega Genesis had an addon called the Sega CD which allowed you to play CD based games on your Sega Genesis, that WAS expensive. Sega Genesis also had a 32X expansion which allowed you to play 32 bit cartridge games on the Sega Genesis.

And what happened with the 32X? It bit the dust quickly. Sega CD didn't do amazing either. But honestly think about it. For the parents buying for their children their going to be ticked that once they bought the 360 they have to buy something else to play games for it. Now if they were marketed as a different type of game it may work, say 720 games or something, but to be 360 BR games that would just cause confusion.
Either way I don't expect there to be any Blu-ray games for 360. It just wouldn't be a smart move on their part.

People upgrade their computers to play more powerful game sometimes. Microsoft would only have to make some of their games require the blu-ray addon. If Xbox 360 doesn't take advantage of blu-ray based games, it's going to be no competition for the PS3 years from now so 360 needs to get up to speed soon otherwise it could be a fatal mistake in the long run.

I realize that people update their computers, but therein lies the difference. People who play computer games KNOW they will have to update their computers. Console users won't have to. I just don't see it being a smart move for MS to do. It would tick me off badly if I was a 360 owner and had to suddenly buy something that was around $200 to be able to play some 360 games.

I was talking to a guy on IRC who actualy develops games, and he says the xbox moving to blue-ray is just pointless. If they need more space, they'll use multiple DVD's. Already a few games do this.
Also, I dont think this is an 'upgrade' but its the new elite 360's.

That games 4 discs? Wow lol.
Having so many discs is a hassle
But I guess I never complained when I played the Final Fantasy games for Playstation or Shenmue for Dreamcast (funny how all the great games are usually multidisc). But when games are multi-disc, the thing that's usually really annoying is when you're on disc 2, for example, and want to do something that requires you to put disc 1 back in. I usually don't like to get up a whole lot when I'm really getting into a game

And for those saying discs aren't a big deal, Rage devs had to degrade the textures on the 360 version due to the disc format. It was in a gametrailers interview.
