I think that the whole point of the Zelda franchise is to put yourself in the role of the hero, so that everyone can be Link. If we were to give him a voice, it would make it more limited in that regard. Now, giving everyone else around him a voice wouldn't be too big of a deal in my opinion, as it does get a little annoying to just read text the whole time.

Thoughts?

If Skyward Sword had good voice acting, I would love that game three times more. Voice acting would generally make the Zelda games that much more epic.

Honestly, I think that the fact that there isn't voice acting in the Zelda games gives it it's own playing vibe. It kind of works for it. I think that if Skyward Sword had voice acting (even if it was really good), it would just alter the Zelda vibe that people get from it. I think that they decided that changing stuff is bad after the reaction people had to Legend of Zelda II for NES.

No.

Voice Acting =/= Zelda.

The thing about Legend of Zelda is it has ALWAYS thrived without the need of Voice Acting.

Look at Majora's Mask, OOT, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, etc.

All great games, none of them have significant voice acting and all are loved generally.

Nintendo has had a bad rep when it comes to voice acting, so I don't think they should dive in that direction. Besides, the way the voices work in Zelda now, with grunts, gasps, and indistinct gibberish, give the game a fantasy-like quality that works for the Zelda series.

No for one Link doesn't talk,
Second remember Faces of Evil, Wand of Gamelon terrible!
Lastly, Link is your hero! Voice acting limits it!

What about voice acting by other characters such as Zelda, or Ganondorf? Also, what if it were turned into a movie? It would have to have a definitive voice at that point, wouldn't it?

Of course if Zelda were made into a movie it would need voice acting/

As for the game, it doesn't..it's had lots of success without it and evidently doesn't need voice acting. Besides, Navi and the other characters wouldn't sound right with human voices.

No. Zelda does it's own thing without the need of voice acting, and as other users have said, it gives the game it's own vibe. The little voice sound clips that are used right now work just fine.

Just to clarify, I am not in favor of voice acting for Zelda either, just thought I'd pose the question. And the above Link (snicker) shows why he should never ever have a voice. Ever.

Well...I think it would be a creative feature, but I also think that the Zelda games are great, if not better without voice acting^^
I think it really sets the tone of the silent hero...I also think it is that way because it is made to make the player feel like he or she is Link and it feels more like an RPG. I'm used to my grunting, yelling, screaming Link lol

Voice acting would be kind of nice, though silence is kind of what makes The Legend of Zelda so charming. You don't actually have to listen to the character speaking, instead, you read text, yet you can still know how this character is feeling, and have a liking for them, or possibly dislike, which could still be just as charming.
