Seriously I cannot stand this show(s)! I won't watch them, but these shows are my roommates favorite shows...bleh!

Both shows are idiotic, imo. I can't stand them either :p

I was not a fan of American Idol. When it first came out, I would watch the audition episodes just to see the hilariously bad people. But that got old fast. I never even seen an episode past the audition out of not caring. I never even bothered watching the X Factor. Same old thing, so not worth my time.  Sucks that your roommates like it. I know how that feels. My fiancee watches quite a few shows that drive me insane with how idiotic they are. 

American Idol should be renamed to Corporate American Idol, after all you see coke logos on their cups and see these so called "idols" making a fool of themselves in Toyota ads.

I hate all those types of shows,lame,people wanting money without doing real work.

Honestly, I don't like those shows, if I want to listen some good musics, I prefer going on Youtube and listening to my favorites songs

Well for a long time my mother, brother, and I would watch it until the season when Clay Aiken(SP?) lost.  We then knew the whole system was rigged and boycotted the show.  Now I don't even watch tv except my little sister's nick jr channel lol!

I never cared for the show. I never watched it. The most I ever saw were the viral videos of individuals who the producers must have simply pushed them further through the competition because they did something amusing. For example, there was Larry Platt who made the song Pants on the Ground. Look it up on Youtube. I once heard that the preliminaries were brutal just to try to wait your turn. Waiting in an extremely long line in unsanitary conditions. Seriously, if you think you have what it takes to be a hit then start making your first album instead of trying to get on television.

  I couldn't care any less for American idol, it's pretty repetitive.  I did, however, used to enjoy X-factor when it had first started, but the judges keep making stupid song choices and clothing, accessory, performance choices, etc., and it has become fairly irritating to watch people be so stupid.

I don't necessarily dislike the shows, not that I watch TV much, but I think American Idol was at it's best with it's first and second seasons. Maybe even the third. I'm sure it may be humorous to people watching other acting like idiots on stage (which is why some of the participants go on there. 2 minutes of fame), but even something as funny as that can get old after a while. Even if it's always new people each time.

I can't say much about X-Factor. I don't think I've even seen that yet.

They're pretty unnecessary to say the least. I remember how everyone used to talk about it and my sister got us to watch it around the 4th season. We all refuse to watch it after season 5, but my mom still watches it (luckily we're in college when it airs now). My brother made a good point, though. The show SHOULD be over. If the purpose is really to find the American Idol, it should've only lasted one season and concluded with Kelly Clarkson. Others from the initial seasons have been fairly successful, but Kelly is THE American Idol. All subsequent seasons defeat the purpose and we're going into what? The 11th best undiscovered talent? That's just ridiculous. But alas, it'll never be over as long as keeps getting the ratings....

thenumberone :   "people wanting money without doing real work" Sure, maybe for most of them (I also believe many people know that they would never have a chance, so they go on and sing as horrible as possible just to try and see their faces on TV,) but the ones who make it and a lot of those who don't have often practiced and sung in places like karaoke bars many years.




I watch American Idol once it's much closer to the end. All of the "hateful" comments are said and done and they have weeded out most of the people who the company gave a chance even though they weren't 100% sure about those singers. What's left are people who can sing... doing so mostly to songs by other artists which you would never hear otherwise because they wouldn't dare record the songs themselves for an album.

American Idol (and I assume X-Factor as well) are largely how the actual practice of "finding stars" works except on a larger scale that is more public driven. There are people who spend their entire lives with great singing voices but are never given a chance because they either don't know how to get started or, as the show accurately represents, the start of a career is approved or denied initially based in a 10-second demonstration. Imagine trying to get a job as, say, a photographer. You know that you are good because you have taken 100 pictures that have been published in small magazines and  art shows. But that's not the big time, which is what these people hope for. Now imagine a bigwig looking at just one of those pictures out of so many to choose from for 10 seconds and saying, "Nope. You'll never be photographer. Bye. Next!" That's often how the real world works. That's why I enjoy the show. It isn't about scripted stories or a decided winner before the season ever starts.

I've never seen X-Factor (mainly because I don't have cable of any kind right now).

I don't like American Idol. It was pretty cool the first season or two, but it's become the same old same old.

Meh, I don't like either show. Both are overglorified shells of what they represent. American Idol without Simon is bland, and X-Factor is too much Simon. :/

I dislike X Factor because I just find it useless.

The only reason why I watch it is because when there are adults around I put X Factor just to keep them busy.

Hate American idol love x factor

Never really watched neither of the shows, but I heard that both are almost the same thing. People going up on stage singing on national television and kissing up to the judges to not be eliminated. I honestly think both shows are a load of bologna.

I hate both of them. I only watch them if I have nothing better to do and someone in my house is watching one of those shows.

Honestly, I've never watched a single episode of X Factor. If I haven't at this point, I probably never will.

That being said, I don't care for either show. Neither show interests me.
