I was looking online about lazer eye surgery and was thinking if I should do it or not.  I took this little test to see if I was capable of doing this and it said that I mostly am.  I have a hard time seeing things far away, which is not a good thing.  I am not allowed to have a license till I wear glasses while driving.  I am one of those people that do not like wearing glasses.  I wanted to have lazer eye surgery ever since I got involved in getting my driver's license.  I understand that it can be expensive.  I have no choice but to do this because if the law says that I have to see while I am driving, I will be just wearing them while I drive and take them off when I am not.  Doing this will not be healthy for my eyes.  The person at the DMV told me that if you wear glasses more often, your eyes will be more adapted to the vision in the glasses.  What I think about that is stupid because if I get used to the vision in my glasses, I will have an even more hard time seeing and my appearance would change.  I need to know if taking lazer eye surgery will be a good thing for me or not cause I am about to talk to my parents about this.  I have found a place where they do the procedure and stuff and I am looking up information about the process and what the risks are of taking this surgery.  Tell me what you think about it.
If you are one of those people that have had lazer eye surgery or thought about it, please let me know how it ended up.

Personally, I do have glasses and I don't really get why they're a big deal. Is it really primarily about appearance? If that's the case, why not get contacts?

BNuge : I did try contacts, but apparently I am too scared to touch my eye.  This is not about my appearance.  All I want is to see again with no glasses.  I have been blind with no glasses for about 4 YEARS and I still wish to see again.

I can tell you from experience that it's sort of something you grow out of. I used to not like touching my eyes. I just got used to it after maybe a month or so of doing it every day. Soft lenses would probably be better for you if you don't like touching your eyes.

Marcmoney : Blind? of the legal veriety?

I am legally blind. Without my glasses I can not see any further then to this screen. That is less then about 12 inches. I can not see at all and honestly pretty soon they can not make my vision better with lenses. So, I understand you. I just wear contacts all the time. I do not notice them and I like them over glasses. Plus they are cheaper and cannot fail.

billythekidmonster : Wow, my eyes are not that horrible. I feel bad for you.  I might be able to get my eyes fixed since it is not too serious.  I wonder how much it is.

Marcmoney : When I looked at mine it was going to be about 10 grand. I thought that I could buy a damn nice car for that amount of money. Or pay for a good bit of my college. So naturally I put it down. Do not feel bad for me. This is just the way God made me. I'm fine with it.

I need glasses, legally I should have them when I drive. It's kinda funny though being blind. I look at peoples faces and they are just blurry at a distance and I kinda like it that way

I would probably get lasic surgury if I were you, if you can afford it. Glasses and contacts seem like a hassle. I hate glasses but then again I like rubbing my eyes sometimes so I dont think contacts are for me. I'm just going to wait it out till I NEED to see far away.

JigSaw : Lol yeah, it is funny. When I cannot see an ugly person, they do not look ugly when I am blind at a distance.
billythekidmonster : 10G!? I would crap my pants if I had that kind of money.  I hope from where I am at is a lot cheaper.

Hmm... I was under the impression that it was only 3000$ at most for normal cases.

I wear contacts. I plan to get this mid twenties, probably more like 23, 24. Find out the true price... it may be only 2100$ for you, technology is getting cheaper and cheaper these days, maybe less. Unless I am horrendously wrong, I'm pretty sure that if you are moderately bad visionwise, then it would be around there.

I found a nice site that seems to support the money numbers I threw out:
http://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/cost.htm

I think that you should get it if you can, and if your vision is stable (It doesn't fluctuate or worsen anymore)... I'm pretty sure you want this to be a onetime deal.

Well I don't know much about the topic but what I can say is that a sit up with your parent and the doctor  is important.  To know about the risks I think one better way is to meet up with people who are undergoing this treatment at a specific place(clinic/hospital)(because results varies from place to place)....once in there...you could hear from these people and know the risks and their experience.

Give it a last try ...for glasses.
And also..I would suggest.... have a sit up with people who wear glasses.....how they feel and how they take it....and know the reason why are you so disturbed with glasses , maybe meeting up with these people and sharing their ideas could probably give you a new way of looking things.

But the final decision is yours....you know what and how you feel..... I can only give you a few suggestions only.

Marcmoney : Well for me like I said since I am more than not blind it would be quite a bit more money. I really do not want it. Though the Porche for the same price looks really nice.

You won't really know what the price is until they tell you... It's all mainly based on how bad your eyes are.

Anyways my dodgeball coach/captain recently had it done in both eyes.  For the first week or so he said it was like looking through frosted glass. But now he says he can read the bottom line at the opticians ( he isn't long sighted or short sighted) .

Anyways I'm from England so i couldn't help you with prices if i knew them.

I know how it is.

Meh, I just go without glasses/contacts/laser eye surgery and squint. My eye sight is poor, but for me it is the appearance thing.

I don't like how I look with glasses, I'm too afraid to put anything in my eye, and I'm too poor to get laser eye surgery.

If it's something you want to do, go for it.
