I want to know your opinion towards revenge. Do you think that going for revenge is a good thing, or do you just drop it? Do you think you feel better when you get revenge? I personally think that going for revenge is bad, and I don't go for it anymore. I found no point in it. I always have this little motto. "Never go for revenge on somebody, because one day revenge will find them." Anyways, I want to know all of your opinions on this.

A wise man once said "an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind." Revenge is just as bad if not worse than the original action. It doesn't right the wrong, it just adds more wrong. Instead, I believe that when we are wronged we do the opposite, we turn the other cheek and ask them to continue the offense more than they had originally intended. See what happens. You may be surprised. There's good in most people. Combat the wrong with understanding, love, and non-violence.

NotJon : I know what you mean. I oppose violence. I really do. It's against my nature to be hateful and misunderstanding. I 100% agree with you, and the man who said that was Mohandas Gandhi, from India. I say that same quote sometimes. People always try to go after revenge, and it makes me feel depressed at how angry people can get. Even myself, at times. I hate it when I get angry. I try my best to avoid it. But anyways, I agree with you on that. Two wrongs never make a right. It just makes things worse. But it still happens and most people don't even care to take a second look.

I think of this as something a little different than what it implies.

Revenge is only worth it if it's a long time in the future and you still have a longstanding grudge with said person.

If you forget it, odds are you didn't honestly care.

If you didn't... well maybe you really need the revenge to get that peace of mind.

I have this gut feeling that some people believe that revenge is the same as administering justice, and from a certain standpoint it is true --I'm drawing from memories of my Criminal Justice studies. But we must be careful not to wholly make them one and the same. If I am wronged, the least I want is for the wrongdoer to be punished. But to seek vengeance is not something God wants of me. (Deuteronomy 32:35) When am I merely seeking justice and when am I after revenge is something I cannot pinpoint.

To be honest, I think that in some ways yes, but there are other reasons to do revenge. If the situation was like someone killed someone in your family or someone framed you and got you in jail or even losing a relationship by someone that you really hate; that would be a reason to do revenge. It feels good to have revenge, but mostly you do not feel anything. I think it is a way of getting that person a lesson.

Very good question James. I agree with you though, revenge doesn't do yourself any good. If someone wrongs you, they will end up paying for it later and regretting it as well. And by then it's too late to do anything about it. Well sometimes anyway, I think it depends on the wrong and if you're willing to change for the better.

I think revenge is almost always wrong. Or, at least, for me, because I always screw it up.

Also, revenge tends to bring up old memories, which may just cause a lot of arguments and just make you feel worse.

Revenge is generally never a good thing. Justice is preferable in all cases. Unless we are talking about pranks or something petty like that... you're friend gets you with a shaving cream balloon, then by all means, revenge.

Personally, I know of a few people who deserve someone's revenge. I'd be happy to be that someone. If they ever cross my path, I will make them regret what they did. .

Keep in mind, I am one of the most calm and level-headed people you will meet. This level of hatred is reserved for a select few. Apart from them, I think revenge is actually pretty dumb.

Every time I go for revenge it ends up biting me in the A** so I usually just try to forgive and forget. The problem with today's world is that everyone wants revenge instead of just learning to forgive.

When I was younger I didn't think anything before taking revenge and then thought nothin' afterward except 'I did what I had to do'. Then I became a Christian and after being touched by God through reading the Bible (yeah, not just an emotional experience - my life really changed), my perspective was changed.

Your motto is a perfect representation of what the Christian bible says, it says in the New Testament book of Hebrews: "For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,".

When I first read that (with the rest of the book of course) it gave me insight to just leave vengeance to him. Although I didn't go through with that thought for a time and realized I was wrong in the process - now I just leave it to him, you could also say it's karma - but karma based on God's actions in my belief.

I pretty much let karma handle my revenge. I don't typically get wronged in such a way that I feel I have to take that wrong-doing back from somebody, but even when I do, I sit safe in the knowledge that something awful will happen to that person eventually.

Of course, it doesn't really work out all the time, and waiting for karma can take forever. Sometimes you just need cold-blooded vengeance, and in those cases, one needs to construct an elaborate trap for one's enemy.
