I have been wonder what is love? I know many people have different opinion's and I would like to hear all of them. So that I can get an idea of what it is.

Love is basically Hate.When you break up with someone they will hate you and have a grudge for a long time.

YoungGame : I disagree. My first boyfriend and I were in a serious relationship for 3 1/2 years. But our lives changed and it didn't last. When we broke up, obviously I was very heartbroken and hurt, but I never hated him, I was just sad. We talked it out. With time, I got over it. I do not hate him, or even have any hard feelings towards him, and neither does he towards me. We're still friends. I can understand that, the more you love the person, the more it will cause you pain to be out of their life. But I don't think it necessarily causes hate. That depends on what happened to cause the breakup..

I don't know how to explain the feeling, besides: When you are in love, you will know it.

I don't actually think you can explain love in one word. It's just too complicated. But I can try. Love is the feelings you share between you and someone you care about.

Love, hmm. It can have many forms, but one content. There is the romantic love, the love between siblings, the maternal love, the love for nature etc. These are just only a few of love's forms, and I bet there are countless forms, that we could mention here, but that would be pointless.
But the content/meaning of the word love is the same, no matter the form. It's a warmth you feel in your heart for the object of your affection. A warmth that makes you ready to sacrifice everything just to make your beloved person happy. When this warmth is strong enough, it's like overflowing your whole being and you feel so full of it, that you want to share this special feeling with other people too. People, that aren't the object of your original affection, but you feel so full that you want to spread this happiness everywhere and make everyone happy.

I know, it sounds too ideal, but at moment, that's how I can describe this word.

Love is a complex emotion. The feeling of it can vary from friends,family and then your true loved ones.  When it is true love you will just know it straight off... It becomes hard to breathe at times when you are around them. You think endlessly about them. Your heart skips a beat when they smile your way. You smile that the smallest things she does for you.  You cherish all the time you spend with them. I mean there is so much more to it but you will never truly understand it until you have felt it.

I've heard this quote before and I feel it to be very true. "True love is your soul’s recognition of its counterpoint in another."

Well, if you want the dictionary's definition of love, it's "a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person." or "a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.



But that's obviously not what the thread's about :/, and quite honestly I can't explain it.
Love is the most complicated thing ever. There are different levels with different causes and meanings for different people, ranging from friends to family to husband/wife. Everyone expresses it differently, everyone reacts to it differently; love is hard to pin down. All I can say is you'll know you have it when you do. Except when you think you have it and don't, but then when you really have it, you'll look back and say "I was an idiot for thinking that was actually love!".
Whew. Rambling there.

From a biological point of view, love ensures that the two mates stay together to raise their offspring, which would be optimal for humans as we are born relatively needy compared to other species. 

What I like about love is how it forces someone to be selfless. If they're too selfish, it won't last. Simple as that. 

In response to earlier posts, love and hate aren't that far apart. They're both very strong words that have very strong meanings. They're not words that you should be throwing around so easily. That being said, I've come to notice that hate arises from a misunderstanding or ignorance. Sometimes our opinions of traits that we feel so strongly about fluctuate between positive and negative (i.e. I used to hate Radiohead with a passion and then one day I ended up loving them. Now the strong feelings have eroded and I simply like them).

 What is love? I'd say that it's an integral part of the human experience; one that trumps most other things. Remember, how can we love others if we can't love ourselves? Learning to be comfortable with yourself and becoming independent is also an important facet of life. I'm still learning that, myself, to be honest.

I've stated my opinions of love in the biological and emotional view. I think I'll stop here.

Love, good question. The only TRUE love I have ever had and felt was for my family. Romantic love has never really been a factor in my life. I have felt it for someone, but it was never returned. As for what love is, I think it's different for everyone, and it's better to find out for yourself what you think love is.

I guess on an emotional level, love is when you have an emotional intimate connection to another.  It doesn't specifically have to be "intimate" since you can love like your mom or your sister (unless your into that kind of thing).  I think of love as something you and another person share that means you'll be there when they need you and vice versa.  Of course, I believe that in order to actually feel love for someone, you need to have more than that; I like to think of it as a very involved friendship.

Love is when you care enough for someone that you change yourself and do things to make them happy.  True love is when you know they'd always do the same for you.

Sorry but that was way too good to pass up. Anyway, yeah, it's very hard to describe any human emotion. We can give examples, we can experience them, but it is very difficult to describe or explain it. Or at least that's my understanding of it. Hope that helps.

Love is something you will come across many,many times, and lose many times, but if youre lucky enough, you just may keep some of your loves.
