I'm looking for some opinions about this. It's not as much about the systems as it is the games. After making the first one, all that's left to do is copy it millions of times and distribute them all over.

I think they're fine, they're more expensive to make than they ever have been, they cost millions to make and some companies barely make profit off their games, infact, some companies even lose money. I suppose they could throw in some advertisements in games to lower the price of the game. But when you go to pay US $60 for Halo 3 or US $50 for Super Smash Bros Brawl, those are the games you definitely get your money worth. There are of course games that are overpriced with only around 5 hours worth of game play - these games should be cheaper. If a game is going to be expensive I'd expect a lot of game play from it.

If you compare prices of modern day games with older games, modern day games pack a lot more. I remember a lot of N64 games being US $60 - 70 when they first came out and I'm sure even NES and Atari games were really expensive (i don't remember the price exactly since I was to young to buy them at the time). So compare what we pay and what we get to what we paid and got back than and you realize that we're getting a pretty sweet deal.


On a similar comparison, new release movies on DVD usually go for $25 and are usually 2-3 hours long. So you're basically paying around $10 per an hour for a movie. A game like Halo 3 on the other hand costs $60 but the campaign is probably what, 10 hours? And not to mention multiplayer is an infinite amount of hours. So you take this into affect and you realize that your getting a lot more hours per the dollar when you buy a video game compared to a movie or any other form of entertainment.

Yeah, it really does depend on the quality of the game.

It depends on both the quality (graphics,music,playability,etc), how much it has to offer and how much time it'll take to complete the game.

That's why I buy RPGs, they're wicked long and they're worth my money most of the time.

Online games and RPG's are almost always worth the money you spend on them. Pokemon Diamond costs $30? And the average person who plays it will probably put 50+ hours into it. I think I'm around 75 hours by now.

In Diamond, I think I'm at like freaking 110 hours. That game was well worth the money.

Combining the copy of Diamond I had that got stolen and the one I have right now, I'd have to say 260 hours. 133 for the stolen copy and 127 for the one I have now.

I have like 150 hours on mine.
Back to the topic, still, thing is Dave, most games rely on you to buy really expensive crap, like the PS3. Now everyone knows the PS3 is crap, but I heard some good games are coming out for it, so it's still a ripoff.

They are far to expensive... At least here in Sweden were we pay more then usa... Let me give you an equation of it:

(X*10)/Y

Where X is game price in dollars and Y is the current Swedish crowns to us dollar rate (currently 6.05573)

So for Halo 3 it's approximately:

(60*10)/6.05573=99,079714584368853961454688369528

In other words we pay 100 dollars for a 60 dollar game

Let's try it with the original cost of the ps3!

We pay 100 AUD for stuff like H3... also still paying 1000 for PS3... so... your not alone.. hence why i dont buy games often.. lucky for us we have reasonable cheap DVD's (region 4) unlike USA being region 1... suxor!

Well Australia and Europe is rather much at the end of the "game release" chain and for every link in it the price gets higher.

Which is wierd.. why would australia be near last... could jes be cause of lack of interest... i would be making this up but its probably true, Australia (of the... main countries) would have close to the lowest percent of gamers... even sweden would have more (We have all seen the Swedish DotA Video... only in sweden can there we chicks raving at a LAN)

Me and a friend wanna go to sweden and challenge random people on the street to DotA and stuff. As well as go Raving and DotAing... something that onyl Alochol can induce in Australia.

And I thought they were getting overpriced here. $1000 for the PS3?

PS3 isn't worth the 500-600 it is here, and it never will be. I'd rather buy a computer and games than a PS3 with no games and nothing else.
