I'm at Aviano Air Base in Italy right now. I left Qatar for good several hours ago and am no longer in the Middle East. Awesome. Just thought I'd brag a little since nobody else here has posted from not just two countries, but two continents within 24 hours. I'll be flying to Germany after this then finally to the U.S. By the end of my travels I'll have posted in 4 countries and 3 continents again within 24 hours.

It's nice here right now. I'm glad to see vegetation instead of sand and dust everywhere. The mountains are nice and it's about 70 degrees at the moment. Cloudy. Glad to be out of the Middle East...

I've been to Italy a couple of times..Rome and Venice, Italy. One of the most beautiful countries I've ever seen...

What part of Italy are you in and what part of Germany are you traveling to? How do you deal with the stress of being on an airplane or jet for hours?

I'm in Aviano right now. An Air Base. We're just waiting in the terminal for out plane to get refueled, restaffed and the works. We're also picking up 200 more passengers. They all seem to be civilians, though. Only 50-something of us, those of us who came here from Qatar, are military. We fly to another air ase in Germany. Not sure how long we'll be there. You can say I'm traveling a lot, but it is a military flight, so it's not like we can roam around where ever we want or anything.

As for stress, none really. They have movies during the flight you can watch, but most of us sleep for the majority of the time. I always bring my laptop with me so I can watch downloaded movies and stuff.

I kinda agree with you though, Italy does have some really screwy things going on, especially with their legal system. They actually put some scientist on trial for murder because they didn't predict an earthquake that killed several people... you cannot predict earthquakes.

i have many gripes with them.
first, they badly manage the country, half of italy is dirt poor.
second, the president is clueless.he actually phoned up  a talk show and started insulting the presenter, i saw a youtube vid, it was hilarious, heres a news article.

and third, amid his affairs, his comments like "i am the most persecuted man in the history of the world" and other such idiocies, the italian parliament underwent a vote of no confidence.he won by about 2 votes, the funny thing is though, about 200 parliament members, even those that had called for a vote, suddenly switched to his side at the last minute, bribery anyone?how ironic that italy is helping to fight dictatorship in the middle east?
any reason you think they will have a new government in 10 years?maybe the faces will change but i think not much else.its sad, i want italy and eastern europe to become as wealthy as the west.countrys like poland and romania are growing very fast with european help, but italy, stagnant.
im still jealous of you for being there though cyro, the buildings, food and history are awesome.although if youre there due to youre military job and youre not on leave till you get back to the usa, i pity you for missing out. that would drive me crazy, there on the doorstep but unable to go out the door.
i think il go next time scotland plays italy at rugby, that should be fun cos italys rugby team sucks =p
