I avoid using it to sound naive an I use it only when I am comparing two things to other, in other words a simile. I do not use it for anything else and I think that it is way overused and lots of people just use it to be annoying when they talk, there are other words you can use to compare things, just get on with it and stop using the word like! I do not use it very often and when I do it is not for some ridiculous reason or to sound immature, so no I barely use the word because there are other words that can take its place and sound less annoying when speaking.

I don't really add any add-ons in my sentence such as Umm or Uhh. That being said, I do not say Like as often either...if I need to compare something I have said, then maybe I would say Like in order to tie the examples together. That is pretty much it for me.
