My first anime was Sailor Moon when I was about 5. Then started watching Pokemon and Digimon right after they started airing. I didn't know what anime was until about 5 years later.

I think it was Sailor Moon.  
Then Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Honestly, I had no idea what Sailor Moon was about, I just thought the chicks were cute when I first watched it.
Then again, I was still young and was far too naive to care about story lines and concept. 

Neon Genesis was when the ball got rolling.  I loved it.
I became a huge Mecha fan and devouted many hours to watching as many animes as possible.

To this day, Neon Genesis still ranks as one of my top three animes.
Others being Chobits and Gantz.
I think it was Sailor Moon.

For me it was Pokémon. I remember when I first saw Charzard, I thought he was awesome because I was into things like dinosaurs and dragons as a kid. I eventually started watching Dragon Ball Z and Gundam Wing on Toonami. I faintly remember bits from Outlaw Star, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptors, and even a faint bit from Tenchi Muyo! I think I might have stayed up late to catch the Midnight Run and a bit of Adult Swim when I was back in elementary (my parents were ok with it, but eventually I started to act all sissy about AS because it had the word 'adult' in the title and stop watching it for a while until I was around 12 years old, which by then way ten times more 'adult' than it was back in 2001. In between that I kept watching Toonami for DBZ and .Hack, and Kids' WB for YuGiOh and Pokemon (but I stopped when Battle Frontier raped my childhood with how bad it was, still play the games, though.) For some reason I liked watching 4kids.tv because it had a lot of anime, but little did I know how horrible 4kids' censorship policies were.

Hmm... I can't really remember which was the first, but I'll have to say that yu-gi-oh was the first anime I ever watched. Then again, I was maybe about 2 when i started watching anime, so i don't really know.

I think the very first anime Ive seen was called Gundam its a classic and after that I got into other series. I still find Gundam my favorite anime.

Currently I have all the seasons of the original gundam on DVD English and Japanese also I have the Gundam 00 on DVD as well. Also I own the manga as well which was pretty good.

Sailor Moon was my very first anime. I really enjoyed the style and soon after found other shows of the same style aired on YTV, realized years later there was a name for it! Dragon Ball, Dragon ball Z, Vision of Escaflowne followed after.

I'm pretty sure Pokémon was the first anime I saw when I was little can't remember exactly. I still watch it sometimes but only new episodes or old ones I missed or forgot( I hate watching endless reruns). Though I agree with a lot of people the quality of Pokémon has gone down a bit over the years.
