I am planning to visit Europe and go to England for a friends wedding.

My friend told me to travel there you have to get an Oyster?

I am not sure what one of those is, so I had to do a web search and all I could find was this website called Transport for London, with this man named Boris in charge of it?

When I looked at the lines, they all seemed closed, so I thought this website was some kind of hoax scam site so I left it?

Have any of you travelled to England, what is an Oyster, how much do they cost?

You dont need to order them,you can buy them in machines in the subway.they are quite new.i dont know if you've seen that advert where the guy uses his credit card without touching it onto anything,but its like that,its contactles technology.
From the start:go to a machine,enter £5(thats about $8).
The card is like pay as you go,it needs topped up,and sadly,when you buy it,its empty.so take the card to the top up machine,it looks like a ticket dispenser.this is pretty cool,if you have a wallet,you can just put it in that,and wave it close to the pad on the machine,it will detect your card.put in the amount of money you wish,it will tell you how much you've done,but important!dont walk away,you need to scan the card again to transfer the funds to it.
Now youre done.
In london there are very few ticket barriers.there are pads at the entrance and exit of every station.wave your wallet at them in and out.Dont forget to scan on the way out,it tracks your travel movements.if you get off without scanning,it cant tell what route you took and it will fine your card,that annoyed the hell outa me.
You can use the card on the underground,on trains and on buses.it maxes out at like,£5.20,handy if you travel a lot.if you use buses as well it maxes out at about 7.40,so i just used trains/underground.
You can even link it to your bank account so if its empty and you have no money on you,not a problem,it tops up,theres not much if you dont live there though.

Well I think that he answered your question but I also must remind you to transfer over some money early as well as make sure to change it over to pounds. My friends forgot and really got screwed over.
