How's it going? I'm baaaaaack...for the moment at least.

Life has been wild and awesome and scary all at the same time! Who would have thought that writing about an angel and liking video games would lead me into such great stuff?!

I've learned a lot...a *LOT*...about the gaming industry and some of its companies, as circumstances have had me kinda spiraling upward into the game making world as a designer. I'm currently in talks with a recently started game company about being a designer/director for an RPG they are making.

But the knowledge of how so many of these companies work...it's quite amazing. It's the kind of stuff that involved non-disclosure agreements with certain very very lofty companies and learning about the stuff they're planning to release in the next, like, ten years. Company trade secrets of one of the top dogs in the industry! Wheeeee! But of course, if I say any more, I'll get sued or worse. Suffice it to say, things have been crazy but awesome lately.

I see life goes on at the Vizzed Board just as it always has. I see a few members I recall from before, too. I hope all is well with you.

Great to have you back temporarily. You didn't even have to go to school for game design to get where you are?

Well it's great you didn't forget about this place, and it's great to hear that your life has been successful.

Oh and thanks again for giving me that info over MSN, even though you were busy (with work?) you still did it for me, was VERY important by the way.

Jeesh Jake, I didn't realize how many posts you had...I'm sure you had way more than that though on the old board(s).

I didn't realize how many I had either! Good to be back for a bit.

And no, I didn't need to go to game design school. The truth is, no school can really teach you this stuff. The technical stuff, sure. But what I do is the creative side (thank God) and no school can teach you that. It's just having an eye for what's out there already, and how you can make it better. Some technical stuff is required even in the most creative-centered positions, though, and I do know enough about general programming logic and flow to do what I need to do. As I've heard said before: the way to break in isn't necessarily to have the best education on the market, though that sure won't hurt. The best way is to do what you love to do (ie, designing game ideas), and do it so well that people start paying you to do it.

In my case, some people at this little company noticed that I have had numerous ideas that I've talked about with a friend of mine there for what different companies should do with upcoming releases, and inadvertently, those releases contained concepts very similar to mine. So it's sort of proof that I'm on the right wavelength. Metroid Prime 3 had about 4 different concepts in it that I had thought up, but only shared with my friend there. He didn't tell anyone, but after Prime 3 came out, we both noticed the similarities between what I had thought of and what they had put out. It's happened also with Kingdom Hearts and a few others, so I guess the company took notice.

Well, I'm gonna head over to the game making forum for a few minutes. Just doing a little personal fan project in my spare time, and I'd like to get some sprites made. Maybe someone over there will volunteer to help out, LOL

EDIT: So it turns out there is no game making forum anymore...did I just make that up??? Oh well. I'll stick it in the Video Games forum.
