Well there may very well be a Dreamcast 2. Besides the fact that Sega has protected the name 'Dreamcast', there are also other rumors of it's production:

It's pretty obvious they are going to continue the VMU concept, which I thought was a wonderful concept. Whatever they do though, they gotta do something new and something that no one else is doing. Sega releases a ton of high rated games a year, so the need for good games wont be an issue. Infact, the highest rated game for Xbox 360 according to IGN is Bioshock, which is by 2kgames (owned by sega).

And see how Sega makes games for all systems, they can easily discontinue making those games and make them all exclusive for their Dreamcast 2. Only thing is, if Sega gets back into the gaming market, someone has to go, because there successfully can only be 3 companies in the console world, so who would get booted? I'm guessing Sony seeing how the PLaystation 3 is been falling so far behind the XBox 360 and Wii. I'd hate to see Sony leave the console world but they always has the PSP to stick with. Either way, Sony is making plenty of money off other electronics, companies like Sega and Nintendo deserve to have a good grip on the gaming world since they are companies whose income is basically all gained from the gaming industry.

It's only obvious Sega would deny it, that would ruin all the excitement from when they confirm it! They want to reveal it when they're ready, they aren't going to reveal it to just some random people.

What better way to reveal than to have Sega come out and reveal and say "Here is the Dreamcast 2, and here is what it can and will do!". That would be far more exciting for gamers and a better business strategy rather than Sega confirm it to some random person and some random person come out and say it, no excitement there and it wouldn't even be broadcasted.

Also, IGN says that there have been images of the Development Kit for the Dreamcast 2.

I am quite sure that the patent sega renewed makes it obvious right there. 'floor pads or mats', dreamcast 1 never had that so i am assuming 'floor pads or mats' are their plans with the dreamcast 2. and interactive controller? the dreamcast 1 had a vmu in the controller which gave the controller a screen but it was really never interactive. that patent they made revealed everything.

I have heard that you could take the VMU out and have it as a portable game system or something like that. Anyways less speculation and more resources chop chop.

Well the VMU, when taken out of the controller, could have games and was interactive (some games allowed you to download mini games to it - i was obsessed with the vmu and played many mini games on it), but this does not make the controller interactive since the VMU wasn't a controller but rather a memory card.

I agree though, we do need more resources and we can only hope to see Sega release a Dreamcast 2.

But a flood pad would be pretty cool, I can only imagine the possibilities of that now. A mat that you stand on, and using sensors, everything you do gets mimicked by your character in the game - of course I would hope most games wouldn't use this (since theres a time to be lazy) but for the few that would, it would be great fun. Would be both innovative and a great way to get the user to feel like they are in the game. And like I said, IF sega got back into the gaming world with a Dreamcast 2, they'd definitely need to do something different, something that would make people choose it over the other systems out there and this would mean they'd have to do something either vey innovative or something VERY appealing.

Ahh yeah, how could I forget to bring up Shenmue...if they did make a Dreamcast 2, the Shenmue saga would finally be concluded with Shenmue 3...actually I'm sure they'd release the previous 2 with the 3rd into a big saga set, and I would sell my soul...ummm...I'd pay a LOT for it.

Sega is a quality company and the Dreamcast is a quality system. Sure some games had glitches and stuff but overall, that system (on average) had some of the best games for it. I can't think of 5 games that sucked for the system and I've probably played 100+ games for it (out of the 248 games that were released in the usa).

i personally loved the original dreamcast. it got one when i was in the 7th grade and thanks to the game "typing of the dead" for it (house of the dead remake) i learned to type very fast for my age. the graphics seemed to be great for its time and jet set radio was greatness. i hope someday there will be a Dreamcast 2...

Your profile says your 27, the Dreamcast came out in 1999 so that was 9 years ago, according to your profile you would have been 18 years old 9 years ago, that's a little old to be in 7th grade

Dreamcast was released only 8 years ago...than again your still a kid so that must seems like a very long time ago to you lol.

My dreamcast is still up and running however I need to get one game... Just one... Which is PSO V2. I intend to buy like 5 copies at once because if I play so much that it dies, then I'll just pop in another

i rember playing the dreamcast it was bad and the games would get scrached when you are playing them.and why get one of them when you can just get a x box or ps3

kasper is probably too young to even remember what the Dreamcast was. Dreamcast, as lbock3 put it, was awsome. Not many of the games sucked. Sure modern day games may have better graphics and may be way more expensive but that definitely doesn't make them better than older games.
