A week ago, I've watched Murder Princess.
There is a manga named the same way by Sekihiko Inui, but to be honest I haven't read it yet, since I prefer watching anime than reading,lol.

The anime is just a 6 episodes OVA, which has been released in 2008. It's full of action and a cool swordmistress is the main character. Every single episode has at least one fight with monsters etc. The era, where the anime is settled, looks like an alternative medieval era, but there are also modern weapons (at the 5th episode we are informed why this is happening).

I would recommend it, because it avoids all the "unnecessary" details, but it focuses more on the fighting and drama. Also if you don't like it in the end, you would not have spent tons of hours watching it, since it's just only 6 episodes,lol

Here are a few info about the plot:

In the kingdom of Forland, a coup d'etat occurs which leads to the death of the King. In the last moments of his life, the King sends his only child, Princess Alita Forland to escape. Unfortunately, while fleeing, a life and death situation between Alita and the bloodthirsty bounty hunter Falis causes the two of them to switch bodies. Desperate for the safety of her Kingdom, Alita begs Falis to return and protect the Kingdom, offering herself as collateral. After a swift beating on the rebel forces, Falis resumes the title of Princess of Forland, leading to the birth of the most savage princess in their land, the "Murder Princess".

I might have to check this out it looks kind of cool. I always like an action packed anime.

I've been hoping to watch Murder Princess before, I just never got around to it. The summary you provided makes it look really interesting, but too bad it's only 6 episodes long. I know that once I start watching it, I'm not going to want it to end.

Someone70 : I usually prefer short anime (around 12 episodes), but even I felt that this one should be longer. But this way, it avoids all the unnecessary details, that make me fall asleep in the middle of most anime ^^;;

I watched it and I wanted it to be a little bit longer. Though I do like that there was never really a dull moment that made me smile. Who made this anime? Do they have others like it?

billythekidmonster : The manga was made by Sekihiko Inui, and the OVA were produced by Marvelous Entertainment and Bee Train based on the manga, directed by Tomoyuki Kurokawa, Shinya Kawatsura and Tomoaki Ohta. That's all I know. But you can find more info here.
I'm glad you liked it Yeah, it should be a bit longer, I wish it was 10 OVA total.

30 seconds into the opening I said, "I want to watch it." I'll watch any anime with good fights. This one looks like it would have epic fights. Is it dubbed in English yet? If it's not, then I may not watch it.

BNuge : I like the original Japanese voices, so I rarely watch any English dubbed anime.

I've just searched quickly on youtube and I've found an English dubbed version, but honestly the original Japanese actress has way more cool voice than the English one.

So I just watched Murder Princess and I have to say that it was a fantastic anime. It was short, so the ending came pretty quickly, but I wish it was a full season long, at least. They did explain a lot in just six episodes, and each one was just plot twist after plot twist. And after the fourth episode or so, I didn't know what to expect. xD

I wish it had way more episodes too. I think the manga lasts longer (2 books), but I'm not sure of that, because I haven't read it yet.

I've looked into the anime a little and watched the first one but to be honest it is a little hard to understand. If anyoone wants to read up on it I found an article about the show.

hackerman : Maybe you gave up on it the first ten minutes... at first I find it hard to understand as well, but you'll understand things after awhile.

noelia : I've watched the first three episodes yesterday (via the link I posted) and it's definitely good. I plan to watch up to the last episode tomorrow. It's not as dark as what the title and the plot says, it's actually light and funny, with a bit of serious scenes once in a while. And I like it.

I think something must be wrong with me. I don't feel like watching this or High School of the Dead, because they have the theme Murder and Dead in them.

Yet, I'm perfectly willing to watch Death Note over and over again.

Maybe I just prefer drama to violence.

Yeah, it has lots of funny scenes, it's not just an action anime. And it has a bit of a drama as well, not too much though (<- that was about legacy's comment). I've watched some anime full of drama, they were heart breaking, I more into action
