I have tried over 10 places in my community.  To those people that are having a hard time finding jobs that are or were under 18 and finally had their first job.  What was it and how did you get it???

POKeMAD : Your lucky, you actually get interviews.  I had no interviews for the past 20 jobs.  How do you give your applications out?  I give them to the employees and ask to give it to the manager.

If you know anything about sports become a referee or umpire.  Or you can caddy at golf courses.  Those are all popular jobs for younger folks and they pay pretty decent.  I did all that sort of thing as a kid and I made a ton of money.  I also mowed lawns for money, too.

Check with sports groups or YMCAs for refereeing.  Good luck!

POKeMAD : You know what...your probably right.  I tried 10 stores and I had no response.  They must have threw them away.  Those employed bastards.  This is why I hate being in this city.

I know how you feel!, I do not live in the USA but in the UK but we have exactly the same problems, I have managed to get interviews for really basic jobs, As i have not got amazing qualifications due to having to drop out of college with medical reasons.. I do not know if it is the case in the USA but the only way to get a job over here is to basically know someone who owns a company or be stupidly over qualified

I was going to get a job but I did not because I did not have the time, it is actually very easy to get a job in the place I live.

My first job was as a monster at a haunted house, but I was 19 at the time.

Finding jobs right now is hard no matter what age you are. I've applied at pretty much anything around here I can find and got nothing... mostly because of those little tests they give you. General note, they tell you to be honest, but if you are then they tend to ignore you. I didn't pass Walmarts little test because I said I would speak up if I disagreed with my supervisor and that the job wasn't "critical to my career"

The problem right now is that with the market how it is, employers have the upper hand and they know it. So when they say "preferred experience doing such and such" it means that if one person has that then they will hire them over you no matter if you are better qualified. They want the person with the BA and the 5+ years experience.

Unless you know someone, then all bets are off. At least that seems to be how it is around here... I'm not a local, I don't know anyone yet, and all my experience and education means nothing when I apply for a position compared to that guy just out of high school with no experience at all because his aunt works there.

Sorry to rant, I'm just really frustrated at all of it.

Elara : Aren't you a female?  How did you ever get a job at a haunted house? I feel bad for you about the way they treated you.  Your right about telling the truth, it's obviously agree with everything they ask you.

billythekidmonster : Well, lucky you.

sonicmcmuffin : Wow, that's horrible.

Marcmoney : That came off as rather sexist, just so you know. Girls can be monsters. My audition was a very well done cackle, though honestly all you had to do to get hired was show that you were willing to make an effort. I won an award for Most Valuable Monster in my maze that first year (that's a big thing at Shipwreck) doing a rough impression of Samara from The Ring. I snarl, growl, speak in a really creepy little girl voice, or a deep demonic voice. The big thing is what I call the statue bit... in a maze people expect there to be monsters, but there are also dummies and other props and if the monster isn't moving they cannot tell which is which. I stand still, wait for them to be brave enough to get close, and then I launch into action... it's really fun. I'd get people to run into walls, pee their pants, poop their pants, ball up on the ground crying, or run screaming either into the rest of the maze or out of the maze's entrance... depending on where I was placed.

There are pics of me during Shipwreck (the haunted house thing...) in my profile that are kinda squished since the photo album is down. My favorite is the snake girl pic.

Edit... I'm gonna just post the pic of me as Samara here since it's way too smushed on my profile. I wish I had one of me right after make-up when the detail was still there.
