I hate to say it, but you are all incorrect. Pokerus increases EV gain, essentially you get EV each time you knock out a wild pokemon. Each wild has different EV values, do  it enough and it maxes the pokemon's ev, 510 total possible. So you usually put 255 in it's to best stats. Thus when it levels it gets more of that stat.

Thing is, Pokerus can spread so maybe he didn't care because he already spread it to the rest of his Pokémon? Now, pokerus vanishes after one day, but if the Pokémon had it they continue to gain EV. But if you put a Pokémon that has it and hasn't lost it into a box, they will never lose it. Which is what I did with Zekrom XD

Yeah, like Moony said, Pokerus helps your Pokemon's stats increase faster. So now would be the time to train it if anything. It's always good to have a Pokemon with an active Pokerus infection in your box if you can, so you can spread it later. When the Pokerus dies out, it can't spread but the EV-boosting effects will still be there.
